Well, Suprise Suprise. I spent all night getting up to check on Pearl last night. Her milk had turned white so I was keeping a close eye on her, but she didn't have alot of the other signs. So after checking her again at 7am I came inside to have some breakfast and look at everyone elses foals to tide me over for another day. I headed back out to feed everyone, mixed up grain and whatnot. I head to Pearls stall to feed her and find a big strapping colt trying to find his legs! We're having a bit of a time getting on to the milk bar, but he's had some colostrum by syringe and he's so close to latching on to the teat it's not even funny So, pics to follow as soon as we get the nursing thing figured out. Happy, excited owner here!

Thanks guys! Well we finally found the sweet spot and then it was time for a nice nap. But not before I got a big shot of colostrum in the eye! More pics to follow when we get outside. The lighting in the barn isn't so great, not to mention mom keeps getting in the way of the pictures. He's bigger than I was expecting as Pearl didn't look THAT big. He's 10.2hh and quite robust. I was concerned as she didn't really look like her foal had turned, her tail head muscles weren't relaxed, her vulva wasn't elongated, etc.... I was afraid he might come backwards or something. But apparently everything was fine, thank goodness. She was also sneaky with her first foal, he was a pretty big lad as well.

Pearl sounds like a 2-year-old, "I can do this myself." Your colt is handsome; looks like seal brown in the pictures, and he is a big fella. Congratulations! Maybe name him Patriot since he was born on Memorial Day.

Thanks Patricia, he is a sweet guy, and as woolly as a teddy bear right now. I can't wait for winter to be over....cabin fever is setting in...
