A Tanzeln filly out of Mixta
« on: May 14, 2008, 10:56:19 AM »

On Mothers Day Mixta foaled a beautiful filly, with the help of my vet. The foal was large and the vet made it to the farm before the front hooves appeared. Now the everything is calming down I have a chance to post some pic's. This girl floats across the big stall and today both Mom and foal went out into the breeze way between the barn and arena where she was really flying with her butt tucked and shoulders lifted. It's so fun to have a little one again and the mare can finally enjoy it as she just passed the after birth that she retained. Now all freshened up and accepting visitors.

Mixta is by Erzsand out of Media by Condus. The girl is 18 years young this year and looking good.

What a pretty mare!  CUTE foal too!!!  How lucky that you got the "big" Tanzeln foal - my little girl is so tiny.

Thank you both Grin I'm so glad that they are doing fine. I know it had to be traumatic to be pulled into the world. I will try and get more pic's when they go out to the field (of corse it has to be raining here for a week)

I do believe we will be having a party for the girls. I think it maybe a retirement party also for Mixta. Cheesy

I maybe giving the wrong impression. I called my vet mainly because I was solo on the farm. If my husband was home I am sure we could of delivered the foal. The vet decided to pull the foal because of the amount of time that the mare was taking to deiliver. The foal in a good size, but she did not injure the mare. I know that some breeders are worried about stallions that may produce to large of a foal and would not breed to them. This is not the case here. Mixta is older and she has done her job bringing forward some exceptional offspring. Now she can enjoy her retirement.

Every time I see a thread on Mixta, I get very nostalgic.  I saw Mixta when she was a 2 y.o., and had to decide whether I wanted to buy her or Letzta.  Mixta was very spirited, practically bouncing off the walls, so I bought Letzta instead.  Unfortunately, I lost her to a "routine" vaccination when she was in foal, as a five year old.  Three other Erzsand offspring that I know of had to stop vaccinations because of their violent allergic reactions.  It's nice to see that Mixta turned out to be such a great mare.

I am so sorry to hear about your mare. I did not hear about the other Erzsand offspring. Mixta is one of the easiest keepers I have owned. Her costs have just been for breeding and normal vet work. We found Mixta by accident in Wisconsin while looking at another mare. Seems the best things happen when you're not expecting it.

Today they both went into the arena (camera lost its charge) and it was amazing. Camera is charging now and the next one will not be missed.

Joy,
That had to be a horrible losing that mare. Cry
So sorry to hear about that. I didn't know that
you had looked at Mixta before.   She was very
docile when I meet her, giving lessons to a newbie.
She is the dam of our Ella, and Grandma to Faith, &
soon to be born, Hope...so we always read threads
about Grandma Mixta.  She seemed like such a sweetie
and a good mover.  Like already stated, and low maintence.
I wonder if Ella gets her neat stall habits from her momma, Mixta?   She keeps an impeccable stall and saves us tons$$$
on bedding costs...and she passed that down to her daughter, Faith, who is also a neat keeper in the stall.

We have a name on reserve. "Mina" will be this fillys name. I am not sure of the correct pronuncation, if the i is long? Kari tells me that the name means love. That is what it is all  about.  Mina & mom were able to go on the big pasture this afternoon and I had camera and video inhand. Here are some pics from this afternoon.

And for stall tideness, Mixta does carry it on. Her two year old, Fritz AKA Memeltanz is the most tidy boy out there. It takes only minutes to clean his stall. Good Boy Grin

That second one slays me -- talk about a "minnie me".  Except for the color, they are the same, even keeping right in step.  And that expression -- what a hoot!  No influence on that one from mama!

I thought maybe Mixta passed that neat N tidy stall trait on!
Faith really didn't do it until we moved her away from the farm for a few weeks, and then within 2-3 days, she found one spot and that is how she keeps her stall.  That is certainly a good trait to pass on!!!!  Saves all of us time on grooming and stall cleaning & $$$ on bedding.
Thanks, Mixta!!!!!  UR THE BEST>

What a gorgeous filly, and I love that second shot of the two of them.  No relationship there, huh?   Grin

Thank you  all for your remarks. Mixta seems to be recovering fine. I can not thank my vet enough for being on top of everything. She developed no infections and her temperature has always remained normal. She is a good girl and rebounds from delivering like a mare half her age. The vet said that her breeding career in not necessarily over. She is having this year off and we will see how life plays out in the future.

I am truly touched that some of you knew her before. Mixta  is always welcoming visitors here.

Kisses to Mixta from TX!  So glad to hear she's doing well; always one of my favorite mares.   Kiss

BTW, last photo is priceless - you MUST submit it for the annual photo contest @ this year's meeting!

21 days old and flying around the pasture with Mom. I know she can trot, just have not seen it yet. Very friendly, nickers every time I come to the barn and thinks her half bother is looking pretty handsome

After tossing names around for weeks, we decided on Maddalena. Known at home as Lena. Any Norse will know Ole and Lena stories. I am expecting many stories from this girl.

Mixta's granddaughter, Faith, would not show us her trot for some time, but boy when she did, it was beautiful.   Lena's 1/2 sister, Mahalaleel Rising has a most beautiful trot, I'm certain that Lena's will be one of the best too. Wink

She looks very pretty, and from a couple of those pictures I think her name should be Momma's Shadow.  That first "double" picture makes me laugh every time I see it.  Looks like they are puzzling over something.

Maddalena is 3 months today, so I had to take some pictures by myself holding Mom and balancing the camera. Not great pictures but she manages to look wonderful. I'm still not sure if she is a bay or gray Embarrassed
