I love Trakehners!

Magic, my 2 y.o. Pissarro filly, found her way through stone walls, high brush, and deer trails to the big pasture on the north side of the barn, which (I thought) is usually off limits with fences and gates. As I drove down the lane, I saw her standing gazing at me from behind the fence line off to my right. As soon as she realized who it was, she took off running, down the hill, down into the nether parts of the north pasture, and I watched her galloping through the brush, over the walls, over fallen trees, around obstacles, criss-crossing all the way, then heading straight toward me from the west pasture below the house ; again, around obstacles and over whatever was in her way, until finally she raced up to the back of the barn, through the orchard, and into the paddock. What a sight to behold! How I wish I'd had a movie camera! And all I could think of was, "why am I 62 years old and not 26?"

Ain't it the truth. I'm right there with you. Maybe you didn't have a camera with you, but you'll get to replay it in your mind as long as you live. You painted a very vivid picture in my mind of her racing back to the paddock, and I thank you for that. I just had a wild ride.

What made it all the more amazing to me was that the area where she was jumping and racing around obstacles was newly logged about a year and a half ago, and the smaller branches were left everywhere. Alders (the bane of our existence here on the coast of Maine) are springing up all over and in just one year are near to taking over.
You're right, Deb, we see them in all their natural athleticism, and our minds are free to join them without messing it all up.
