Herzmond training for Hunters
« on: January 12, 2008, 07:25:55 PM »

This is Herzmond (Tzigane x Hennie *M*/E.H. Muenchhausen) after 2 wks with his new trainer.

Manny loves his new "job", and though he sometimes shows more enthusiasm than technique, he's learning fast, and should be ready to show in February.

I love this guys parents and have been anxiously anticipating his debut. He looks great. I'm surprised at his color, however, is he clipped?

Yes, he was body-clipped a few days ago - resulting color surprised me, too - doesn't look a thing like his true color (see photo attached).

I've never clipped mine; does it always lighten up their coat color this much?

Haven't even watched the video, but yes, body clipping changes their color pretty dramtically usually!  I hate to body clip horses - both for the amount of hair that ends up OFF the horse and ON the one doing the clipping LOL, and the resulting color change of the horse.

It certainly changed him; also showed some black "spots" on his body (maybe he tried to be Taz's color in utero, but the chestnuts overtook him?!)  Grin

The great news is - like many of you've experienced - he was in the arena one day and several people came over to watch.  Inevitably, someone asked about breeding, then commented, "I've always heard TK's were crazy; some trainers won't have them in their barn".  So we sprung the news that he wasn't even 4 yet (it's fun to watch their jaws drop).  After a while they looked @ me and said, "Trakehners are doing something different with their breeding these days."  I just smiled and said, yes, we are . . . you should try one!   Grin

Manny is clearly made to do the job. Wonderful videos, Kim!!!

The chestnuts often turn to "pig color" after clipping; I've also seen blacks turn into a mousy shade of grey that is just aweful and the owners have tears in their eyes because the great black horse is gone (for a while  Wink). Manny does carry his new color with grace though! Can't tell how much I wish you good luck and success at the upcoming shows!!

Ah, the margaritas are calling!  Manny will be in Glen Rose 1/23 - 1/27 and 1/30 - 2/03) - maybe one of those weekends we can have a little salt & lime??

After the first of February, he's in Gulfport, MS @ the Gulf Coast Winter series (AA-rated) for 3 wks: 2/13 - 3/02/2008.  Will be my first trip to MS!
