Looks like you all could have used another swim in that lake! She's doing wonderfully even with the weather and the flies.

We were scored by Judge Gen. Jonathon Burton~ All the shows we have been attending are part of the USDFBC Breeders series. This particular show was Sorensen Park Dressage & Sport Horse, sorry, I thought I listed the show name on the photograph name? We have also shown under Lilo Fore, Peter Hansen and others. Recieving positive feedback on our score sheet is such a bonous: "Elegant head, good reach and ground cover, well balanced, good proportion, elasticity, good expression, overstep, good impulsion and harmonious."
I had, at one show, a fellow breeder comment on how balanced she is. We are just so happy to be able to enjoy showing her, we packed a cooler and tailgated with Faith & my boys. Wish I would have had the camera close by, do you remeber the picture of Shadrach trying to get his muzzle into the cooler at the campsite? Faith did the exact same thing! It would have been neat to have a similar pic of her.

Hi Joy, thanks for the congrats, she turned one on June 3rd, (the day her daddy won BC/ and first place ) She is just over 14.1 hands, nearly 14.2. I currently have 3 yearlings, and they are all within the same size range, except the colt, he is about a 1/2 inch or more taller. My yearling filly (May 16) is just over 14 hands, might be at 14.1 by now, but I was curious what normal is. The Traditional babies I've seen this year are almost 15 hands! I'm glad to know that 14.1ish is not necessarily small.
Your colt is very nice. Have you shown him at all?

Hey Joy, I know one of the fillies we competed against is advertised at 15 hands, but we all stood next to each other before going into the classes, and the fillies were all within an inch of each other, or very close to the exact same. I haven't shown Derby, yet, maybe shown in hand next season.
Thanks LM, I too, really think he stamps his own. That is something I am looking for in a mate for Faith. It is not an easy thing to come by. It is easy to find a stallion that is awesome, not so easy to find that the kids show the influence of their sire. My top pick for her would have been Pyatt Charly. I have a long time to save and seek her perfect mate (years).

Yikes, a case of the yearling ugglies have struck... I knew it was coming... the rump starts creaping up, and before you know it, it is a gangly looking horse staring back at you!!!!! Well, we did show our gangly gal this past weekend at Silverwood, even with her case of ugglies, and she score well, though lower than before with a 69.6 % Several of my competitors, commented on how this judge had scored everyone much lower than what they had been scoring all season from various judges. SO, maybe we all got the yearling ug bug at the same show? LOL..... Here she is, gawky and all..... all I can say is WHAT a difference a week makes!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor little gal, doesn't know how her butt got so bigg!!!!!!!

What I forgot to say..... is that she was a perfect little angel, stood awesome for braiding, was so calm, cool and collected that she drew people in, and they wanted to know about her and if she were always so calm, had a few people ask about her breeding & my son, who was watching on the rail overheard many comments on her trot & that people thought it was just georgous & perfect. AND she was the ONLY yearling filly that did not blow up in her class. All I could think was, yeah & I'm the one holding the 'hot' Trakehner? ?? LOL She was a real trooper and showed great yesterday. I couldn't have asked for more!!!!! & it was a miracle that we could even show, as they thought they were too booked to take one more horse--- we prayed & prayed & told the show management to book us a stall, we'd show up and hope to get in--- we thought that if nothing else, it was more training time off the farm for Faith and more braiding practice for me!!! Our prayers were answered and we did get to compete!!!!!!!! Thanks God!!!
I also forgot to mention that she placed- THIRD!!! Such a good gal. We love our Faith. She *may* be having a full sibling next season, most likely named Hope!!!

Even going through her growing spurt she isn't what I'd call ugly and her temperament forgives any temporary conformation flaws. I think she is a wonderful horse, and you've gotten her used to so many things she's going to be unflappable too.

Hey, we all have the fuglies at times! Most of the judges can see through the growth spurts to see what if really underneath... Besides goign to the in hand shows gives the young ones GREAT experiences that will help down the road (my firm belief and the only reason that I do them).
Who was the judge at this show??? I know, I always ask... the reason for it is there are judges that are known to score "high" there are judges to score "low" there are average, middle of the road judges, and there are judges that are all over the map. I also know judges that like certain types and those types will score much higher than other types... just depends. Hence why the aggregate for year end awards is needed and used...
(oh and btw - my "crazy" tks get the same reaction at shows. everyone is always amazed that they are TK as they are generally so laid back ) Congrats on the 3rd though, y'all are having a great season so far.

Okay, *just* for you I am going to give you the rundown of her entire season so far, like you said, the aggregate rules, and I am so happy with her- How could I not be? I have dreamed of breeding my first Trake since I was 12. Getting her out off the property and in the show scene was first priority, though it has become more fun than I thought (and good incentive to run on my treadmill!!!) This is our first season out & God willing we are going to keep with it. Granted, she is not eligible for any Trakehner awards in these classes, though it is still a good time for us as a family- good thing we are easy to please & it is almost as much fun as taking Shadrach camping!!! Though not quite as much fun!!
Our very first show *ever* was: Lilo Fore -73.3%- 3rd place
Then we have done these shows this season too: Peter Hansen- 66.9%- 3rd Peter Hansen-73%- 1st Peter Hansen-75%- 1st Sue Manden-Mandas- 70.6%-3rd Gen. Jonathan Burton- 78.3%- 3rd Gen. Jonathan Burton- 74.3%- 1st Gail Hoff-69.6%- 3rd
Hope that satisfies you curiosity or helps you know who is high-low and in the middle, though if you ask me- I'll tell you she is at least an 83.3% Nearly everyone has commented "Elegant head", even Gail Hoff ~
Some judges have been very helpful to tell me how to handle her better in classes (Mr. Hansen) and others have not had many comments, though I was told that they didn't have many comments for anyone, only scores!! It has been such a fun experience & I am sure that showing more than one is going to be even more of an education.

I hope that I didn't sound "put offish".. I don't/didn't mean it that way! And all of the judges I know (either first hand or otherwise) with the exception of Sue.... I'll PM you what I know about them if you want. PM not because there is anything wrong or good, just I don't talk about judges publically excpet to say who they are. (you never know when that one judge you said something about will turn up at a show.... ). And I agree that going to the shows are fun. For the most part the people that go are great fun to hang out with, I've met some AWESOME folks while going to these shows (and some pretty big names too - both people and horses). Plus the experiences for the young stock is invaluable IMO - from learning patience while they are being groomed for the show, to learning manners on the line, and getting to know what the "ring" means (and trust me they learn when theya re "showing" vs "standing around" LOL), etc... plus the trailering, going to new places... all of it helps so much down the line.
She may not be elig for ATA awards, but she would be elig for year end awards with the USDF if she has a lifetime number with them (and you have a number)... not sure if you have gone that route or not.
The reason I ask about the judges, is 1) I'm constantly comparing what judges score (high vs low, etc) to get an idea of what to expect, also - if you know that a judge scores very high (one of the ones on your list) normally the score is eh... ok, but if you have a judge that is in the high low range and you score pretty well (also in your list with appropriate scores) then the score becomes more impressive... get me?? Besides, it isn't just about the score - so much can change in one day to the next, heck one class to the next. The important thing is that she is out there doing well and learning from it all (and "mom" is having fun with her!!!!!).

No Problem, I didn't take it wrong- Glad to help with your score comparisons! I try not to pay too much attention to who the judges are. I would go to the shows no matter who the judge is anyway! I just go to the shows and experience the day! Like KB said to me at the last show- score variation is just part of showing- you roll with it and go onto the next show- I think what makes the difference, enjoying yourself ~ and keep on going forward~! I'm up early to get her bathed, etc for her show today- Let you know how it was!

My gosh - how are y'all having so many DSHB shows up there? ? I'm jealous! Or are you traveling long distances (it doesn't sound like it though...). Side note - I think it is ironic that y'all are already showing like crazy (y'all being the north) with the babies, but y'all normally have the later babies and the cold etc.... whereas we down here in the south, are really just starting to show. There have been one or two other shows in our region this year (one in June in FL, one in TN - LONG drive for me) in May or June), but we have the babies earlier (general terms of course)... Even with the show season kicking off, there is one this weekend (we're going to the first show! yeah), one in FL and one in GA next month, then regionals in Oct - I think there is one more in TN also next month (I don't pay much attention becuase it is over 10 hours away - and if I"m going that far I'm going to DAD LOL).
Good luck today! I am going to our first show of the season this weekend today - Carter BAss is the judge, and it is named "Summer Sizzler" for good reason too, temps of over 100 lately... I'm taking Tatendrang (Tycoon's full brother, my yearling colt), and Emma (Preston's half sister - my weanling this year by Oskar).

In the South East none of the breed shows start up really until Aug/Sept - there are one or two in May/June/July (I think May has one in TN, there may be one other in TN in June or July, FL has one in June and one in July (but no IBC classes at either one) then the season really kickes in come Aug/Sept and finals are always in Oct around here... just the way they do it, I'm sure partly because of heat, but I find it interesting that we have our babies earlier normally than up north, but y'all's season starts sooner.
BTW - I like Jos - we get him a lot down here since he is from Atlanta area. Very consistent, likes BIG movers, doesn't care about manners, and very nice - he normally scores pretty well.

Wow, your yearlings must be huge by the time they step into the ring! Jos was very nice, talkative & informative...joking with our sons--very open & he did mention that Faith was well behaved & well presented. It is refreshing when a judge is talkative & open to some light conversation. Even chatting in the office while we were in there during break. Overall a very pleasant judge. He particularly likely her withers & saddle position & had several positive comments to make about her, as well as hints on how to train the horse to show themselves to the best advanage~an area I admit to be working on- We have tough act to follow, showing with KB. He, too, is an extremely nice man & very talented at showing in hand. It is pleasant to watch him show a horse, even though I realize I have a lot to learn & miles to run

Yeah, I like Jos, although there are some that don't. I have found that while he will give a low score (mid 60's or so) occasionally, (and they are usually really poor movers) he generally trys to give most people in the 70's and higher. Preston averaged mid/upper 70's with him (76 ish range) and like I said - we have him at a lot of shows. And he generally is pretty causal in the ring and chats etc (which I like).

I really thought he scored anywhere but average. The scores were high or low, not many in the middle. The horses that scored lower, were basically because they had not yet learned to trot out with impulsion on the line. He addressed this with a friend of mine- and gave her instructions on how to improve this aspect, as he could only score what he sees, and *that* is what I liked about him, that he flat out told you his opinion & you could ask him freely questions on how to improve. Very refreshing~!
***edited to add*** One thing I have learned by showing more in hand, is that a large part of that score -depends- upon how well the presenter shows off the horse. Before I began this journey, I didn't realize how vital this is, though now I appreciate this more.
