Hey all,
Thanks for the comments so far about the various bloodlines.  I may be picking your brains for a long time.  As before I mentioned that I was thinking of buying a Trakehner filly (this will be a few years because of financial, family, and knowledge of the breed).  I am sold on the Trakehner breed, and now I am just learning about the bloodlines.  As I mentioned before, I am looking for an exceptional dressage filly who would be eligible for futurity and OSB.  My expectations are to take the filly as far as we can go in dressage, possibly breed her, train her foals for dressage, and at the same time build a wonderful friendship.  Now various members have given me great advice and information.  I thank you so much.  As I have looked through the approved stallions list on the ATA website, one stallion in particular keeps grabbing my attention.  Amethyst has been popping up here and there along with his foals.  At first I was not impressed with one of his foals.  I realize that not all foals are going to be impressive.  However, my first mistake was assuming Amethyst was strong in jumping so I didn't pay much attention to him.  However, I went to his website and looked up some info (basically because he just keeps popping up and I can't explain it any more than that).  I did this on a hunch that my curiosity about him may be a hint to study him.  I found that he is very athletic and beautiful.  However, I would like to know more about his offspring and how they do in dressage.  Also, I have noticed that Trakehner Stallions pass down certain traits that contribute to the personality and physical appearance of the foal.  Does anyone have information on Amethyst and his offspring?  Just curious about him.  My biggest problem seems to be finding the bloodline since all the Trakehner Stallions and mares are so wonderful!  Cheesy  Finally I would like to add that the Trakehner community and ATA seems to be very friendly, very proud of their breed, and very organized.  This has also helped in my decision to purchase a Trakehner.

Amethyst 'keeps coming up" because he was a very exceptional stallion with a long career as an Advaced 3-day eventer.  And yes he had to be able to fly like a Saturn V rocket to do that  - but he also had to be supple, balanced, and obedient to his rider, and these are the hallmarks of a successful dressage horse.   Most of all, his career showed him to be physically durable and this is important no matter what sport you choose.  BTW, I've seen pix of him in his later years packing a junior rider - that really speaks great things about a stallion's mind.

However, if you want to be able to 'get aboard' a Trak a little sooner, you can get some nice horses for fewer dollars by delving into the offsprong of stallions who are also very nice but not as well known - or sometimes you find a seller who doesn't quite realize what they've got.  It means turning a lot of stones but it can ve a VERY effective way to come up with a horse you would otherwise not be able to get your hands on.

Hi Leahs!
You can do it!
I did, I think I searched the internet for almost two years, checking the web sites everynite, as my husband was working an odd shift six pm to six am, so it was hard to sleep...

Any way I had looked at probably hundreds upon hundreds of pictures and I hadn't set on a bloodline, which I am glad now that I didn't as it kept my eyes open.
By this time the excitement I originally start with when I began this journey, looking for our Trakehner, had been replaced with a tinge of discouragement.
Late one September night while going thru Trakehner pictures... there he was...my horse.

The unnamed colt was three months young at that time.

That was in 2000 and he is going to be three in May, I can't imagine life without him.  Embarrassed
Maybe he has taken too important a role,   ::)since we call him our 'only child' and he has a scrap book?
Grin  Oh, well...we are having fun!

There's nothing at all wrong with that!  When I get around to re-breeding my gelding's mom, I hope all her babies (except the ones I keep, of course) end up in backyards like yours.

Thanks guys for the information and encouragement.  I really like Amethyst.  I just didn't know alot about him.  I had a feeling that I really needed to find out more about him.  Christina thanks for the encouragement. I have only been looking at the Trakehner breed for two months.  I have known about Abdullah and Martini.  I actually saw and petted Abdullah in Tampa many years ago (I was about 16).  That is a memory I will always cherish. My next filly will probably have her own website and scrapbook.  My last two had their own scrapbooks.  To me horses are more than just an animal we can ride, they are partners that grow with you and you with them.  There is a bond that is unexplainable, but all good horsepeople know what that bond is.  I have read the stories about Kaspareit and other stallions who have passed away.  They have made me cry because I understand the loss those people have gone through.  If you have any information on mares to look out for, let me know.  I realize that mares are just as important as the stallions.  Thanks again

Hi Leahs!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Trakehners!  Having used the same system (ie: find a stallion who's offspring continue to 'catch your eye' and follow your personal taste) when buying my first TK, I encourage you to contact the Holekamp's for Amethyst offspring.

They have done a laudable job of assimillating some of the finest TK bloodlines (Caprimond, Templeritter, Matador, etc.) in their broodmare herd and will certainly have offspring of Amethyst's out of some of these fine mares.

Good luck!
