I love my Trakehner!
|
Has anyone leased their mare before? I am thinking of doing an on farm broodmare lease with my Trak mare out of Staccato. What are the pros and cons? If I bred her to sell the foal, I know I would not be able to part with the foal. My 9 month Arab filly is proof that I get too attached and do not need the temptation!! Thanks everyone.

I leased my mare to Terri Sikora in CO for the 2002 breeding season and have had a WONDERFUL experience.
I had to have surgery in Jan 2002 so I didn't want her being put out to pasture while I couldn't ride, so I sent her off.
I can say that Terri has been great! I recommend researching the person (i.e. getting personal/professional references), put everything in writing (down to the smallest detail), and request insurance on your mare.
Of course, you can always negotiate the terms, but if you put everything down on paper first, then you have something to go on. I have the blank lease form that we used if you would like a copy. E-mail me at shadytrake@earthlink.net.
These are just my personal opinions...every situation is different. Good luck
