Does anybody know what happened with Amy Tryon's horse that was hurt at Rolex?  I watched the highlights show today, but it left it up in the air, not even telling us what the injury was.  Is he doing better?  Fresh off the Barbaro special last night, I was watching it when he pulled up, and it didn't look good then, not that I'm a vet, but I wished the show had told us what it was, broken or soft-tissue injury.

He was put down according to the Chronicle BBs.  See Eventing thread.  What a shame.....

I suppose now we'll start hearing about how eventing should be BANNED and how horrible eventers and other performance riders are. Undecided

Probably.  There are people just waiting for any excuse to jump on "cruelty" to animals.  Not that I'm not against actual cruelty to animals, but I don't think doing anything with our animals is cruelty, either.  Any horse can take a bad step.  I'm certainly not blaming Amy for it.  In fact, the shots of her holding his head after she pulled up spoke volumes for how much she cared that he was hurt.

I was glad that the highlights show didn't try to get into sensationalism and showing as many falls as they could find.  Overall, a nice wrapup for trying to fit a 3-day event into 1 hour.  I was disappointed not to see Windfall, whom I enjoyed watching last year, even though he was having a bad day.  Gorgeous athlete.  Is he hurt or just sitting this one out this year for other reasons?

That's too bad.  But really, the article in the latest issue of PH on taking care of an eventer so that he'll be sound enough for the ground jury and stadium jumping doesn't do the sport any favors, and I've evented before.

I don't worry about it a while lot, because horses who DON'T want to gallop and jump won't.  And people sometimes get hurt having fun, too, no matter how many safety precautions we try to take.
