Scary start for this little man . . . red bag delivery (just like our Harry Houdini), but both mom & son are doing well.  Since we named Harry because of his narrow escape, this one's owners did the same, meet . . . Merlin (barn name: MoJo).

I am so glad that Gretel went to MI to have her foal and had the cameras on her. I know she wanted to have that foal in the field like I caught her with her first one. This was ment to happen.

I have a picture of her first foal that looks a lot like Mojo at one day old and a picture at now at 5 years old and 17.3  I hope Leslie has extra boards to raise her fence.

You're right about the extra fence boards.  Apparently he jumped the salt block in his stall within a couple of hours of birth, and water buckets first day turned out (Connie, you can relate having Fritz!).   Roll Eyes

She's gonna need 'em.  Got photos today & MoJo is already a 16h yearling!

Thanks, Joe.  Credit actually goes to Connie West (WWF), because she bred this boy.  Current owners - Scott & Leslie Merchant - bought mare in foal, intending to have her approved by the American Holsteiner Assoc. (they are HOL breeders).

However, they were so impressed with MoJo, they decided to repeat the breeding & his full sibling (they're hoping for a filly) is due in about 3 wks.

The conversion from other breeds to TK enthusiasts continues . . . one-by-one!   Cool

Love how well Taz and the TB matched here. Wonderful mare, remember her well from Ohio (though in much distress, poor thing). I'll keep my fingers crossed for a filly this time - although there's little we can do about that now  Wink Don't forget the photos when SHE's here!!

I cannot believe how much this horse looks like our Derby, I had a hard time convincing my husband that it wasn't him!
Twilight zone here.  Other than socks, that looks just like Derby.  Wow.  Derby is 1/4 TB, wonder if that has something to do with it?  I'll have to snap a current pic to show you, though it is uncanny resemblence.

Would love to see the photos of your 1/4 TB.  What are the complete bloodlines of Derby (perhaps there's other shared lineage - either on the TK or TB side)?

To me, he looks a great deal like Harry Houdini @ the same age (everyone thought Harry was TB, so there's definitely a "look" attributable to more 'blood').

Forgot to address this, Stacey.  A bunch of the height has to be attributed to the dam.  Gretel's first son (by Feuertanzer) is now 5, and stands 17.2h!

Yes, the 17.2 boy, soon to be 6 in July was my first attempt as a breeding farm Roll Eyes Gretel passes bone and temperament. And to to think this all started from a remark by my farrier "that's a nice mare" - "do ya think" - "you should bred her" And that's where it started. The best advise I have taken.
