The 100 day test doesn't exist anymore.
It has been replaced by a "new" system of stallion performance requirements. It starts with an initial 30 day test after approval (as 3year old), where you can decide if you colt is shown in the dressage section, the jumpers section or the "all around" section.
After this test ONLY, can the stallion breed. Which answers your question: if you don't want to lose on the European breeding market (= shipping frozen semen), the stallion HAS to finish and pass the 30 day test.
None of the 2002 approved Trakehner colt can breed this season, if not done with the 30 day test.

As a 4year old, they have to finish a 70 day test. Or they can earn their points by qualifiying for the National Championships.

Yes, the 30 day test HAS TO BE PASSED beginning in 2002, before a stallion can breed in Germany.
If he fails as a 4year old, he can come back as a 5year old or go the way of competition, which is the much better way in my eyes as it tlls a whole lot more about the true vales of the stallion as the 70 day test ever will!
