We don't have a lot to announce at this point, other than that our barn is painted, our new run-in shed is finished, and our fence is ALMOST done. The fence was the big farm improvement for the year and we almost got it done in time for the SNOW that hit the last couple of days.
Anyway, folks, take this one away...

No shows since last April, but Kasserine is currently about 120 days in foal to Happy Hour. She's due in June.
The last ultrasound, done at 109 days, showed a bucking bronco buzzing around so fast, the vet could hardly get a shot of it. She thought it might be a boy, but couldn't be sure.
Kasserine thinks she has a litter in there and wants to eat for five. (She thinks dogs have it made).
So we're on our personal adventure this year. Advice is, of course, welcome, as usual.

Litters...haha!
In a weird way, it is nice to be able to rely on the fact that multiple pregnancies don't generally persist until late pregnancy. The first year our Tara was pregnant, everyone tried to apply people baby-gender-predicting principles (ie, is it carried high or low, down or wide, etc). Tara became SO round, starting at 3 months, that at 8 months and by following the "wide for girls, down for boys" system, I was certain she was having one of each!
Broodmares are like mystery gifts--that's what keeps us going, even though you can't keep all of the foals!

As for show results, our 1997 gelding Caliph (Larazzi X Ciekew) was rewarded with four 1st place ribbons as well as a high point award at Training level 3 & 4 (open) at his last dressage competition in San Marcos California. Yeah Trakehners!!!!!
As for expected foals, we had our vet sex 2 of the babies at about 70 days, looks like two more fillies (from Ciekew and Cerina). Loretta & Chemla's foals will still be a surprise.

Between striving to achieve a "balance" in our stallion's breeding, competing and training life (and just being a "horse"), he faired very well at recognized First Level competition this year, and among his wins, he earned High Score Award at First Level at Dressage at Lexington. This is a lovely and very challenging competition. He and another horse/rider tied for first place. I was pleasantly surprised when I read this in the Chronicle, as I did not know until then. We left Lexington on a Saturday and the competition went through Sunday. So, we did not know of this award until we read about it...
Renee
P.S. It's still quite interesting as to how many people are so pleasantly surprised when we tell them Happy is a Trakehner due to his wonderful temperament and good behavior. It is so good for our breed to get them out there and continue to show the world just how super these horses are!

Well, I would like to announce that the boarding/training part of Karousel Farms is up and running. We aren't quite done yet - bathroom, lounge, tackroom etc, - but the arena is to die for, and the stalls turned out stunning! I would like to extend an invitation to anybody in Chicagoland to stop by for a visit. And, if anyone else is traveling through Chicago for any reason - please give us a holler!

This looks like it will be a fun website to visit and make new friends. Some of you I know..the rest I look forward to getting to know. As far as announcements go...we were had a very nice weekend at the Dressage at Ky Horse Parks Breeders Classic in Sept. We do a lot of Horse Trials every season, so it is a nice change of pace to do a Breed Show or two each year. It is fun to take our little ones out. Sophina, a Trak weanling was 3rd in her class, Cajun Spice Trak yearling was 3rd in her class. And I have to mention this...this little colt is such a sweetie....it should not be held against him that he is only a Holsteiner Lamar was 2nd in his weanling class and was also the High Scoring Holsteiner. It was a fun weekend, I love taking our foals out. For most of them it is the first time away from home. Till later.

Shame on you, talking about Holsteiners!
Congratulations. Glad to see you pop in.
Please check out the MWT site. I filched Sophina's picture off of Cindy's site and put her in the photo album. Glad to hear comments on any part of the MWT site, which I am working on as I speak.

It's a beautiful Fall here in Kentucky! Our show season is over for this year & we're getting ready for Mr. Winter's arrival. Isis, our 5 yr. old Trak mare will be moving on to First & Second Level next spring after winning several high pt. Training Level awards this year. We're so proud of this talented mare! Also expecting a new arrival in April by Kreshendo out of Sternlicht (by Amethyst) .... hey, Suzette .... wait till you see Saga, the Meistersinger child -WOW!! I'll get a video to you soon. Our two Schonfelds were sold to Calif. It'll be a sad day when they leave . Much to do around the farm but I WILL be sneaking away to St. Louis on Thurs. for the convention - at least I'll get a break from cleaning stalls for a few days!
