« on: January 28, 2007, 12:15:49 PM »

I've been lurking around the board, waiting the FOALS OF 2007 thread w/new arrival  announcements and - most importantly - photos of the little rascals!   We're in the process of moving, so did not breed for '07 foals and I need a foal fix!!

I know Lara Myer's foal by E.H. Michelangelo (ex. Feenstraub, Mozart - Pregelstrand) should arrive any day (maybe even came last night . . . haven't heard from Lara today).  Who else?

Help me live vicariously!   Grin

We have two that should arrive within the next 3 weeks. Both of the foals are by Lehndorff's, one out of my TB mare Reika and one out of my Kalua! Most of the foals are due in April. Good luck to everyone expecting babies this year!

It seems to be that the earlier the birth (in the year), the longer the gestation.  But fear not!  She'll eventually get tired of carrying that baby around.  Grin

Ok guys, what is the deal with this mare not foaling???  I am going crazy waiting, watching and wringing my hands.  Today is day 358.  Anyone have stories of long cookers to share?  I sure could use one to make me feel better...

Two years ago, one of our brood mares foaled in the end of August, more than six weeks over term. A vet told me, you should never speed up birth except if there are real bad complications. Only two or three days before birth the lungs of a foal are ripe and ready to work. And the foal will send stress hormones, that are inducing the birth, when it is no longer comfortable in the womb.
So don´t you worry. Your baby will come, when it is time. I suppose you are controlling the health of the mare as well as the life signs of her foal, and as long as both are well, just wait. Is the milk already running? Then you should see you have colostrum!
I can´t wait to see the fotos!
Cheers

Lara,

I've had a couple of my older girls go really late.  Matty is the latest... she waited until day 370.  Vicky held out until 365 a couple of times, too.  All of the foals have been happy, healthy and appropriately mature (not dysmature).  I'm currently having the opposite worry with Kalua.  She foaled last year as a maiden at day 320.  Tomorrow she will be at day 307 and I'm not sure how much longer she will wait. Everything appears to be okay, she just wants to foal early.  I tell her daily to keep her legs crossed for a couple more weeks!

Good luck with your mare and keep us posted!

Some very interesting foals on the way this year (Lara, how're you & Dani holding out?!).  Sacha, I'm particularly interested in seeing your Tycoon foal out of the Achtermann - Guter Stern mare.  VERY nice cross!   Cool

Lara, I would have to check the calander etc, but I do believe that Tanz went around 360 last year with her foal (which I believe is normal for her... )I also was at a QH farm and the poor mare there routinely went WELL over a year every foaling - she was always around 370 days  Shocked or more.  The baby will come when it is ready - it just makes foal watch sooo hard for us humans! LOL

I am about a month 1/2 away from foal watch myself with my Oskar baby!  Due mid April.  The mare went exactly 342 with her other foal (Preston) and we are around the 290 give or take a few days point right now.

@Lara: Are you still waiting?  know how you feel. Do you get enough sleep? I suppose not!
I like Michelangelo very much. and as he is quite old and as there are problems with his fresh semen  by now, we will not see many Michelangelos any more. I would really like to see fotos as soon as Dani has made it! And of the mother as well, such a fine pedigree! By the way, I have a new mare, that belongs to the same family, Freebie by Rockefeller/ Karwendelstein/Schöner Abend. But she is not yet in foal now.
Good luck!

Yes, Lara, tell us!! What's going on?? I tried your cell on sunday and got a disconnected signal  Huh

Angelika, Dani is a very pretty mare, very much non-Mozart with a dishy face and beautiful, large eyes. She is a longer model, blood bay, great neck and foundation, and loves to jump. I always like being around her, she is a very classic older Trakehner model and I think Lara's idea with Michelangelo will pay off great. She bred to EH Herzzauber before and got a really really nice colt with mom's beauty and a moder modern layout from dad's conformation. I am dying to see this foal!!

You have to know that Lara met Michelangelo in Germany a while back when we were visiting farms and instantly fell in love. So much that only a few months later, she and her mom bought his daughter Kolomba from Erdsieks. She was a NMS auction filly in 1996, and is out of Gräfin Dohna's elite mare Kontessina. Kolomba became the ATA's Grand Champion mare at the 2005 Annual Meeting and had a smashing black filly by Windfall, who Lara sold to the West Coast. Koko is expecting another Windfoal this spring, so hopefully there's more good stuff!!

And people, while we're talking about Michelangelo. Check out Avonlea Oaks Farm's site for the photos and video of their reallys really nice Michel colt from last year!!!

me too! I suppose, you will see the wonderful Morgenglanz in her?
I love him so much. I knew him well and Perlenglanz as well. Mostly the chestnuts were typical children of that line, but some bay too. I cant wait to see fotos, Lara!!!

As the proud owner of a coming two year old by Fandango, as well as seeing Fandango's get regularly when I visit Sherry, I can say he often throws dark, but also has the red gene and has thrown an occasional red head.  What he DOES throw all of the time is his great butt!  One conversation Sherry and I were having about my filly, I said "she looks just like her dad", and Sherry said, "no, she looks just like her mom."  My response was "that is because you are looking at her face and I am looking at the rear engine."  To which we both then laughed, and she said, "oh you'r right!"

Wow, thanks for the nice comments Maren..  Well guys, this foal continues to cook and I am so, so tired.  I've got the camera ready so will take pics as soon as I see anything.  Dani and I are spending a lot of time together, so snuck some pics the other day while she was snoozing - here's one of her sleepy face.  I think today is 365, but so punchy the calendar is blurry  Undecided

FINALLY!  It's a boy!!!  Fritz arrived this morning at 4:20am and a very chilly 19 degrees, poor wet boy.  All of that extra cooking has made this a very big foal (soooooo sorry, Dani  Embarrassed Mom and son are doing well this evening - he's already showing off canter and bucks.  Pics tomorrow since the camera froze this am, no kidding.. thanks to you all for your well wishes and encouragment, really got me through these long days and nights.
