It is unfortunate that we cannot control the weather Tongue.  I guess I am just used to the mild TN winters. Grin

Barring the sound system problems and the length of the Stallion program (I don't mind long, but combined with the frigid temp in the building, many people left early), the meeting was fairly well organized.  The food was good, the hotel comfy, and the inspections were efficient.

The quality of the horseflesh presented was impressive this year.  I too was surprised at the outcome of the stallion inspections.  I do feel that several of the stallions and mares would have benefited from a better triangle and hard surface.  I will not mention names, but several handlers were too slow to keep up with the horses.

It was also disappointing that the at liberty for the Stallions was all the way at the end of the arena.  This made it difficult to view the at liberty because the stands did not extend to this part of the arena.

I did think it was a great idea to have the membership meeting at the venue instead of the hotel.  I think many stallion owners were able to participate in the meeting and voting when previously they missed due to having to "be at the barn feeding, mucking, & etc."

It was also an excellent idea to split up the awards between the Thursday and Saturday evening events.  That way we had time to socialize.

Overall I think the meeting was fairly good and I look forward to next year.

I would think since Kim was mentioning Denton that the Denton she is talking about is the one near Dallas.  Where's the other Denton?

The Denton we're looking at is about 30 minutes North of Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport (Denton County).

One question - if anyone knows the answer....

The guy that was doing the video taping for the inspections, did anyone get the tape from him?  I ordered one, he had told me that they might have it ready by Sat, but of course I left without checking to see if there were any copies done.

They have my address so I assume that they will mail me one, but just wanted to check and see what everyone else did/is doing.

I am pretty sure he had them done...I saw him finishing up as we were leaving before dinner. I forgot to ask if I could grab ours, but since I knew he had our address, I figured I'd just wait for it to arrive in the mail.

I wish I could have met more people, or spent more time chatting to those I DID meet,  but I didn't arrive until about an hour before stallions presentations started on Saturday so my rider/trainer had me running here and there. Plus, I was a stress case since my husband threw a fit over the trip (I had never left my kids before...ever), and I had only about 2.5 hours of sleep before the 8 hour drive. By dinner I was totally cashed! I am sure people thought it disappointment, but in truth, I was too tired and worried about my husband and kids to really care! LOL! Then, I got up and left by 4 AM...

I need contact information on him.  Ordered a video and didn't get him a check (so presume mine won't be coming in the mail!).  He was taping the Friday night performance gala, including the Hunter & Jumper stakes and I definitely want a copy of that.

The company that did the filming is called Another Point of View. I don't have a number for them, though Sad I know they do all the shows at Paxton Farm, maybe someone from there knows?

I'm so glad that I am not the only dummy that didn't get their video!  We were all exhausted obviously!

I tried to google Another Point of View, but am not coming up with a website or address - if someone can post it, or forward it to me it would be appreciated.  Also, if anyone got photos of my colt (or any of the others for that matter) can you share?Huh  I currently have only the photo that Ingrid took of my colt for the whole weekend.... sigh (BAD horse mommy!).

Anissa, you bring up a great point.  We need a professional photographer @ these events.  Pam did a good job with the still photos in Conroe, but this year (and hopefully in years to come) we could use some action photos (Allen MacMillan, are you, John Zaccanini or Shannon Brinkman listening?!?) for exhibition rides, and particularly the hunter & jumper stakes.

I know that there were many people taking photos of all of the horses - hopefully SOMEONE got good/decent photos.  I know that it was difficult to take good indoor photos due to the lighting.  I was taking photos for Carri Cassel to use in the publications/website for the mare/foal show (but really prob only one or two of the 100 or so that I took came out I think - I am NOT a photographer! thank goodness for digital!).

Info for Another Point of View - John Breden; ph. 937-845-2473. Email - jbreden@erinet.com   We picked ours up before we left on Saturday and except for the poor audio which wasn't their fault, it was a very good tape. When those big barn heaters came on, you REALLY couldn't hear anything! Thanks, John - another very nice job ..... We sure didn't have time to take video or pictures!

I am hoping for a good video, too, as I also failed to get pictures. I have one really crappy picture that was salvagable from the under saddle phase. My camera had a flash, and all it really captured were all of the dust particles. Sigh. I am a bad horse-mommy, too, Anissa...

I was hoping there would be a professional photographer there. As much time and money as we spend on getting the horses ready to go, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more to have good photos....just a drop in the bucket comparatively, but worth SOOO much!

Excellent point, Joie.  The horses are groomed, braided and looking their best and it is an excellent opportunity for video and stills. I've photographed inspections over the years before everyone had a digital.  People think they can get their own photos and save money and maybe they can.  But a pro who knows how to photograph the horses in-hand, and in difficult lighting, is worth the money.  I've seen proofs put up on inspections from around the country that were only so-so.  With big inspections, you frankly need more than one photographer and people need to buy photos, not just one 4 by 6.  The equipment needed these days is very pricey.

Question:

for the TI report I am writing right now, does anybody have good photos (ingrid?) of the new approved stallion, the Kitfox and Dynamik, and most importantly, the mares??

Thanks,
Maren

I've been following the convention news - thank you all for the information.  Love the photos and would like to see more. Smiley

I was also wondering who won the broodmare in the silent auction?

Thanks,
Jane

Yes, Heather and Ingrid, if you have any other photos you'd like to share, I'd certainly be thrilled to see them.  Heather, do you have any of Fortitude?

And Anissa, you are a Godsend. I'll tell you why later Wink

I do have a couple of each stallion candidate.  Email me at SovereignHorses@aol.com if you'd like copies of your horse.  I don't promise they are that good, but I do have some!

Heather, did you get any of the performance exhibition, particularly of a dashing young lad named Billy?  Grin

Ditto Lauren's request, except I'm looking for some of a certain black Jumper named Tzigane!   Wink

Sorry... I didn't get any photos indoors.  My camera was too slow with the low lighting.

Maren has posted her observations about the convention in the TI site. Good to have her commentary and constructive criticism.

Photos are up, too, of the unapproved stallion candidates.
