I heard a Tribute son was approved today. Kim Hunters stallion won the jumper class. Not sure who won the hunter class. It is cold there and the heated arena is not all that warm from what I have heard. I am sure we will get more detail soon.

Oh, MAN, was it cold!!! Much too cold, too soon!! We're back home in Kentucky and winding down now. Our Stella Di Luna won the Filly Championship and we were soooooo proud and happy! It has been a few years since we have been able to attend and I guess blessed, that it was so close to home this year. It was wonderful that we were able to connect with folks whom we haven't seen in years and also, meeting new people who share the same love for this breed. Donna .... yes, we do this for fun!! We enjoyed your company and comradery and your coffee got me through this morning! God, we're wiped out, but we look forward to perhaps another time when we can do it all over again. I'm convinced that horse people are "sick," but we're proud to be among them! Bless those Trakehners!

Great convention, but happy to be back in Texas where it's not freezing! Denton, TX next year!!
Here's the list of winners:
1 approved stallion: Apollo Sun (Tribute - Egmont) 1 model mare: Riviera (Favian *Pb* - Donaufuerst *Ps*E*)
Mare Champion - Sistine *M* (E.H. Michelangelo - Kostolany) Filly Champion - Stella di Luna (Windfall *Pg*- Amethyst)
Can't remember colt champion, but colt/gelding class winners:
Colts/Geldings of 2004 - Eligah (Onassis - Polarpunkt) Colts/Geldings of 2005 - Knowonder (Malachi - Turkoman xx) Colts/Geldings of 2006 - Memeltanz (Tzigane - Erzsand (*E*)
**********************************************
Hunter Champion - Zulu MV (E.H. Herzzauber - Karat) Jumper Champion - Tzigane (Graditz *E* - Condus *E*)
*********************************************
Most emotional moment was presentation of the Palmenbluete Award to Horalas. Jim Rushing attended the meeting with his & Diane's son, Kes. His comments that he knew Diane was there in spirit caused more than a few moist eyes.

We aren't quite home yet--stopped off for a while at my sister's 4 hours south of home to pick up our dogs--but my mom and I are really happy we were able to get to the meeting this year. Always a great time and so nice to see all of our old and new friends, partners in this Trakehner adventure I hope everyone makes it home safely

Arrived home at around 1 pm cst last night/this am. Lord what a long trip!
It was great to see old friends, and meet some new ones! (Eileen, Joie....). If I seemed a little out of it I apologize - I was stressed and TIRED! The Convention was a lot of fun, as others have said, the hotel and Eden Park were wonderful (yes, there could be improvements, but by and large it was GREAT!) Sue and Donna really did a good job. And as others have said it was COLD - sleet on Thurs, snow flurries on Fri, and coming from FL it was even COLDER feeling!
Lauren's ride on Billy was fantastic - man that horse has some great extensions!!! The rest of the Demo rides etc were also cool - esp liked the "skit" about the inspectors! LOL!
As for the stallion and mare inspections... there was some NICE horse flesh there. Congratulations to all that were approved!
Oakstable, I'm sorry but I'm going to take offense at your remark. To make the assumtion that because only one stallion out of 10 was approved the rest shouldn't have been there rankles. The stallions that were there deserved to be there. Yes, they have faults, find me a horse that is perfect, but not every horse is going to be approved. I'm not going to talk for the other stallion prospect owners, but for me personally, I KNOW what my colt's strengths and weaknesses are. I DID have him "pre inspected" (or as close to as my circumstances would allow me to) and was adv as a yearling that he was a good prospect. I was not sure if he would be approved or not - of course I was hoping that he would be, but I had my reservations. If I didn't think that he was worthy of being there and being looked at I wouldn't have spent the money to get him there. Frankly hindsight being twenty twenty I prob should have waited until he was done growing and more mature. I'm very curious to see my colt's remarks and sores. I WISH that they would announce the stallion scores at the inspection - if for no other reason then the audience (and other breeders) would know WHY the stallion was approved/not approved, this would help in breeding plans - if for example that I know that xyz was not approved because they need a more elastic trot, or extenstions, or jump, or canter, etc I can adjust breeding plans accordingly and hopefully improve on my breeding program.
I had a great time and learned a lot from the experience - and other than possibly waiting another year or two, I honestly wouldn't have changed anything about going or not going with my colt.

Great positive comments, Anissa! It is so difficult presenting a young stallion, and waiting, waiting, waiting for those words, Approved or....Not Approved. I have been in that situation several times, and it is definitely a character building experience! There are several factors that are taken into account by the inspectors, I believe. They look, of course, at conformation, quality of movement, athletic ability. In addition, things that are also important are stallion presence, perceived temperament, and value for the breed (and several other factors as well). So, what I am saying is that all things have to line up, on one weekend, with people all around, in a strange cold place place, not an easy task for a young colt, something like the heavens all lining up ! The approval or non approval has really little to do with the overall quality of the horse himself, he is still a good horse if not approved and the ones not approved will go on to be great performance ambassadors for our breed. That is a great thing.
Kim, I believe the colt/gelding champion, and winner of the Colts/Geldings 2006 was #77, Zantastic by Feingeist, out of an E.H. Herzzauber mare, bred and owned by Kathy Hughes from Omaha, NB
The convention was just great. I enjoyed meeting new people and renewing old acquaintances. The quality of horses presented was very high, and the spirit of everyone there was positive and helpful, great teamwork. The annual meeting and convention is definitely a "not to miss" opportunity for next year. Mark it on your calendars.

Eileen - it certainly IS a "defining" moment... while we were waiting and waiting and waiting, my heart got faster and faster and the breathing became harder and harder, then when Brad started announcing it was like the opposite happened, everything slowed and narrowed down to a pin point of light... even worse when they had to confer for a few mins on whether or not Preston was approved (LOL! are they TYRING to kill me??? LOL!).
I want to say too, that the members of the ATA are by and large the BEST group of people. I had so many different people come up to me prior to Fri/Sat to give encouragement and also after Sat to just check in and boost spirits - people that were genuinely concerned and empathetic. I REALLY appreciate it! Y'all are the best (big hugs and thanks esp to Patricia and Serge - eh? LOL - Eileen and Wally, John and Carri, Nan, Glen and Nancy, David Couch, and Sherry. I can't even begin to tell you what it meant to me and mom to have y'all's support and understanding!)

Finally all the way home now, and looking through my pix from the weekend. My camera was very sluggish and the temperature cut into my motivation to take photos this time.
Here are a couple of shots of the hard surface phase for the stallions. I was shooting between people's heads and over a wall so they aren't great, but there you go...
I BELIEVE this is acottongim's (Anissa's) colt Emerald Impressions by Impressionist and Zyclon, another Impressionist colt owned by Nancy Funkhauser.
Anissa, I can send you the larger file if you would like it (this version is quite a bit smaller)

Oh my gosh Ingrid... I would LOVE a photo of my guy! THANKS! I didn't take any photos (a little busy) and my friend that came down didn't get there in time on Friday for the outside shots, and she said that the inside shots didn't come out very well!

What a beautiful colt! And Ingrid, what great photos!
Is that lighter hair I see in his tail?

Joy, the first colt is mine (the bay), the grey is Nan Funkhauser's and he is a grey, so there is lighter hair in his tail. The horse that was approved was a bay sabino.

The meeting was definitely a great place to see beautiful horses, great friends and learn lots.
Lauren's ride on Billie was wonderful. Talk about being through the back -- that was it! It truly was lovely. We are all very proud of them both.
The stallions at the parade were very fine animals and a pleasure to watch. Always makes me wish I had more mares, more land and more time and of course -- lots more money.
I always feel so for those who have stallions presented for approval. Such hope and such disappointment if they are not approved and you know going in that most will not be approved. It is really putting your horse and your money where your mouth is. To do that you have it all exposed to the world. All the flaws as well as the strengths. You truly have strong hearts. My heart goes out to those owners.
Thanks so much. If you had less courage, we would not have the wonderful stallions approved that we have now. I'm sure more could have been approved and maybe will be on the basis of performance in the future. Who knows?
Anissa, I'm sorry your boy was not approved, but he is a beautiful animal and I'm sure you will enjoy him anyway. Being an approved stallion won't affect that at all.
All in all another great meeting. Hopefully, everyone and more will come next year.
Hope everyone gets home safely and thank you everyone for all of your hard work in so many different venues.

Still looking through pix, and didn't get much at all indoors The lighting was weird in there.
One of the highlights for us was finally getting to meet Guy Laroche, to whom we have been breeding mares for three years. Here is a shot of him, showing off the nice accommodations that Eden Park offered the horses.

Billy tells me to send his love to all our new friends. He is very sad to be back at home among the "common" warmbloods
The stallion approvals were quite an education for me, as I've never been to such an event, and my perspective as a rider is clearly different from that of a breeder. Apollo Sun was unquestionably my favorite, but I would gladly have taken about half of the others home with me as well.
I think Texas is too far to bring Billy along with me next year, but I will certainly be there!

Thanks to all the hard workers who made this a great meeting, mostly Sue and Donna, a super job more than well done.
I had a great time judging the mare show with Gisela Gunia and have some thoughts and comments that I will post later on TI. I think the quality of the young horses, filliea and colts/geldings should make everybody happy with regards to where the breed in NA is heading.
Regarding the colts, I was very disappointed not to see the Kitfox son approved, he was a lovely modern sport horse and all around athletic colt with a great jump (something I missed in Apollo Sun completely). Hopefully John will hang on to him. Would hate to see that kind of suppleness and athleticism lost for the breed.
Anissa, you have a lovely, very well behaved three year old. I wish you all the best for the future and his performance career, which I'm sure he'll have!!
Lauren, great seeing you after all the emails! Good luck to you and Billy for next year!!

My hat is off to anyone who has the fortitude to bring their beloved stallion prospect before this committee. Seems to me it's as much as which side of the bed they got up on that morning as anything when it comes to selecting which stallion will be chosen. Seriously, it can't be just conformation and gaits as Emerald Impressions was winning everything he entered. Were they looking for particular bloodlines? If that is the case, without knowing which bloodlines, you are really shooting in the dark when presenting your prospect.

Thanks for those of you that have said such kind words about my boy - really I do appreciate knowing that so many of you think that he is a pretty boy etc! It is nice to have knowledge of support by other horse owners/lovers etc. This has prob been the best part of the experience from this journey, is the people that have offered their support/kindness etc. I can't thank any of y'all enough!
Although, Maren, I don't know if I would go as far as to say he was well behaved (he did get loose after all LOL! - although it was an accident, and he was fairly easy to catch)
I too was surprised that some of the other colts were not approved (and I'm really not talking about my colt), there were several of us that were trying to guess who was going to be approved and we were all WAY off course.
I still say it would be interesting to know WHY the non approved colts weren't approved. I think that it would help in everyone's breeding plans. I looked at several of the colts presented and saw good things in each of them - I also saw things that I wouldn't like (weaknesses if you will), but some of the colt's strengths would make up for the weaknesses - some had better trots, but poor canters, or vice versa, or a poor jump, but awesome gaits, whatever.
I will also say that the owners of the colts worked together very well - we all helped each other with the free jumping practice, tack, encouragement, etc and that is GREAT. I was very proud to be a TK owner thanks to the comraderie and cooperation at this event.

Like many of you, I was surprised by some of the non-approvals, especially the Kitfox. I hope John Krenger keeps him intact, allows him a bit more time to find himself (this is a large colt & still something of a "Baby Huey").
One of the most impressive things this year was the professionalism with which all stallions were presented and the presentations under saddle of the older (4+) horses were particularly noteworthy. The riders were professional, quiet and skillful - and did a marvelous job of presenting these horses in their best possible light.

I looked on Mapquest and there are two "Denton"s in Texas, as well as a Denton county. Anyone know which one we are looking at?
