Tonight I had a little time on my hands so I went over this year's (2002) NMS catalogue & did some stats on stallions that keep showing up on our horses pedigrees.
The horses that were presented are considered F1, the 1st generation. F2 is the 2nd generation, the Sire & Dam. F3 the 3rd G, the Great Sires, and Great Dams, and so on & so forth:
The list shows how many times these sires show up in the past 4 generations (up to F5) of the 122 horses' pedigrees in the catalogue.
Number 1 is IBIKUS & he shows up 59 times Number 2s are AROGNO & MAHAGONI => 51 times each Number 3 is DONAUWIND => 35 times Number 4 is KARON => 31 times Number 5 is HABICHT => 28 times Number 6s are MATADOR, CONSUL & CAPRIMOND => 27 times Number 7 is ENRICO CARUSO => 26 times Number 8 is his son KOSTOLANY => 24 times Number 9 is HOHENSTEIN => 19 times Number 10 is MACKENSEN => 18 times Number 11s are SIXTUS & MARDUC => 13 times Number 12 is MICHELANGELO => 8 times Number 13 is BUDDENBROCK => 6 times
Some of these stallions did not live that long, like Mahogoni, and others left Germany, but left their marks behind while they were there, like Enrico Caruso.
It is interesting to note that Ibikus, Karon, Enrico Caruso, Kostolany, Caprimond & to some degree Arogno (since he was leased for a year) were directly or indirectly related to the Langels breeding progrma at Haemelschenburg.

Thanks a lot, Karim!!!
What's even more interesting for me, is the "hot blood" influence here:
Ibikus comes from a TB line (sireline is Hertilas-Loretto-Pindar xx) Both Arogno and Mahagoni were 50% TB (Arcticonius xx and Pasteur xx, resp.) Donauwind is more or less "pure bred", but his foundation dam Donna was a daughter of the almost Anglo Arabian bred Cancara (by Nana Sahib x) Karon is an Arogno son Habicht was 50% Anglo Arabian Halfblood through his sire Burnus AAH, who also contributed a small amount of Hungarian Kisber halfblood. Matador is A Donauwind-son, Consul was 50% TB again (Swazi xx), and Caprimond is a member of the Arogno-line Enrico Caruso and Kostolany count to the Mahagoni-line Hohenstein is again Argono Mackensen is the first true "outsider", his sire was the Polish Trakehner Patron, his dam however also produced Mahagoni. Sixtus traces back to Habicht's AA roots, Marduc represents the Halali line, but carries, like many of the above, the Mahagradscha (Arabian) influence through his dam. Michelanglo is 50% TB (Pasteur xx) Buddenbrock is a member of the Habicht line.
So, what is the "take-hone" message?? We NEED TB and Arabian blood ever so often, folks, horses are getting more related as we speak and it's almost too late to increase our gene pool!!!
Just to show the connections in one example: Maharadscha, the omnipresent son of Famulua-Fetysz ox. His son Flaneur founded the Arogno line as well as the Rubin-Majoran-Preussenprinz line, his daughter Maharani is the dam of both Mackensen and Mahagoni (plus Marlon, but he's not as important). Maharadscha also sired Ferlin, sire of Marduc's dam Madeira! So basically, the three most important dressage lines in the breed (Arogno, Mahagoni, Marduc), all trace back to similar roots. Thank God Habicht and Sixtus are not only exceptional jumpers, but are conquering the dressage ring equally. Plus Consul and his get add more to this aspect. I just used this exmaple to point out how close everything is and how desperatly we need new influence, which, in the Trakehner breed, can only come through TB/Arab blood!

Maren-good to talk to you and thanks for the nice words about Charly--I have frozen semen--but it isn't cheap--because I want to save it for my program. It looks like my trip to Germany wasn't in vain--we have a few issues to settle--but it appears that I'll be bringing home a Sixtus son in January. Actually-what you said about Windfall, I agree--he's a really nice horse--but of course I like this one better (like you wouldn't have figured that out!)
