Hey guys, need your expert opinion.

A breeder has been boarding a 3 yr old stallion at her farm. The horse's owner didn't have proper facilities for the horse before he got there (he was being kept in a horse trailer 80% of the time!!). So even starting out, this horse has been a little hard to work with. She was attempting to breed him for the first time (pasture bred) and the stallion attacked her. He charged her, rolled on her and bit her shoulder.

M question is, was he viewing her as a threat to the mare? Was the attack "stallion" motivated? And do you think that there is a chance this horse could be rehabilitated if gelded, turned out w/other horses (he has been somewhat isolated) and handled on a regular basis?

Who the heck keeps ANY horse in a horse trailer 80% of the time, let alone a growing, sexually mature colt/stallion! And then expects it to come out sane in the mind and sound in the body without some horrifically major issues going on???  Huh

You hear stuff like this and you want to string someone up by the you-know-whats ...   Angry

Poor darned horse and it isnt even remotely his fault but of course he is going to be the one that pays the ultimate price for his owner's stupidity and gross negligence ...   Sad

Geez, it almost sounds like he was just P.O.'d that he's finally out of that horse trailer, and along comes this idiot owner and wants him to do things HER way.  I mean, if it was pasture breeding, why did she need to be involved?

A little hard to work with?  The poor guy probably has stress coming out the yazoo.  Rehabilitated?  I think any horse can be brought along slowly and lovingly and overcome all kinds of trauma.  IMO, he should have the same kind of winding down that a OTT TB would have--about a year of turnout and no demands.  Just let him learn how to be a horse again.
