and he just gets better and better...

Grin Today was day number 2 for my colt under saddle.  If anything he just gets better.  I am beyond excited!

He was ground driven from the barn to the round pen, ground driven at the round pen (outside of it) for about 5 mins, then Lori got on him again.  He was more "up" today - he wasn't asleep when she mounted him at any rate! LOL! but he still stood quietly while she mounted him, adjusted her stirrups etc (rode in the dressage saddle today).  He walked, trotten, cantered on the lunge at first, Lori did some steering with her leg and rein.  After about 3 times steering with the leg/rein he required less "plow rein" to turn, and he was completly willing to stop/slow down with her seat and a little rein asking him to do so.  So the lunge line came off... he again walked/trotted/cantered and changed direction at the walk and trot with NO problems!!  To top it all off, Lori rode him back to the barn!!  This was with TONS of distractions around - mares in the field nearby, other stud colts/geldings around, people walking by, golf carts etc.  He was aware of eveything but stayed focused on his rider the entire time!  What a good boy!

Link to photos: http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID=551865869&security=ayPPbT (I added to the orig photos of his first ride).  If anyone is wondering - the lunge line was attached to a halter that is over the bridle.  This particular halter has a lead rope attached that won't come off.  This is what is tied up around his neck (it is NOT a tie down or martingale or anything!).  The canter pic is blurry, but gets the point across (sorry!).
