My tiny little filly by Pissarro out of my 1/2 Arab mare has definitely grown up.  She's about 14:3 hh now, and just turned 2 y.o. last week. Hard to believe she was unable to stand when she was born, because she's definitely strong now. No longer called Pyxie, either, since she seemed to have taken that too literally--and was very mischievous.  Wink  Now she's called Magic (from registered name Pyxylated Magic), and hopefully it's good magic!

She looks wonderful. Love her markings. The girl will most likely do Magic againest the rest of them in the show ring Grin

She looks great, Joy!  I still remember those first pics, when she was so little and weak and you were having trouble finding a halter small enough.

Very pretty filly Joy, do you know if Carol still has Pissarro and is he still intact?  Carol bred a few of her mares to Impressionist as well as some of her boarders/ clients, but they got all colts.

Hi Joy and Joe! Yes, I still have Pissarro. He's the love of my life. I keep him because every day he does something to make me laugh! He has so much personality. Yes, he's still intact. He's very easy to handle. He would much rather be working under saddle, jumping if possible than bothering with the mares. If we're late for his ride time he starts rapping on his stall door with his foot! God forbid if I work somebody else at his time! I did collect him twice for friends that live nearby that hassled me until I did. But it gave me a chance to see what he would produce. The result was two very nice fillies. At some point I should present him for inspection but I need to have a stiff drink first! I love him too much. It's easier if I just put it off. I've attached a couple of pictures of him. The first is as a yearling showing in hand. The second is as a four year old after his first dressage show.

Here's a couple more pictures of Pissarro, then I promise I'll stop. The first is under saddle last year I think. I have an event rider training him because he loves to jump so much. Unfortunately I don't have any good pictures of him jumping. That's where his real talent lies. The second is a more current picture of him just being him.

Carol, you'll need at least one, but you definitely should present him (esp. if he loves to jump  Grin).  What are his bloodlines top & bottom?

Kim, the funny thing is impresenting two other younger stallions this summer and I'm okay with it. But I'm not as attached to them. Pissarro's sire is Impressionist and his dam is Petra by Meistersinger out of Primavera from the Perle dam line. I'm a dressage trainer so it's harder for me to evaluate jumpers but he free jumps nearly 5 feet with ease and just loves it. It's because of him we're familiar with the phrase heads up at my barn during free jump training. He doesn't like to wait while you change heights. He tries to come anyway!

Magic certainly resembles her daddy! One of the things you were looking for when you did those initial breedings, to see how he reproduced himself well?  She certainly looks like him.

Yes, and she apparently got a lot of his personality as well.  Every time I bemoan to Carol  some new behavior she's presented, she laughs and tells me "Just like Pissarro!"  She's got tons of personality, and is very smart and very, very clever.  Too bold for her own good, too.  But if she follows her daddy's lead, she'll mellow out by age 4.  Uh...right, Carol?

Today when I was mending fence and she was being too much of a pest, I put her in the paddock.  I was sure, from the head tossing and false starts, that she was going to jump the 5 foot gate to get back into the pasture, so I hurriedly put up the hot wire over the gate, and she backed down.

But with all of that energy and naughtiness, she's very sweet as well.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I was busy on foal watch. Look for the newest Tradition *Pb* baby under 2008 foals. I've raised many many foals. I worked 12 years at a breeding farm and now I'm on my 10th year breeding Trakehners. Pissarro was one of my more challenging foals to raise. He was never really naughty, he was just always in my space. He wasn't able to stand up the first two days after he was born. So I had to sleep in the barn and pick him up every few hours to nurse. Once he was up everything was fine, he just couldn't coordinate his hind end to get up. I think because of that he became really bonded to me and always wanted to be right there with me. But having said that he was by far one of the easiest ones we've ever started to saddle. In three days he was carrying a rider and starting and stopping and steering without any one leading or lounging. By the 12th time under saddle we put him in a walk-trot class at a dressage schooling show at my farm. He thought it was great fun to have everybody watch him and applaude at the end. What a ham! My niece was down visiting today and showed me a great picture she has of him free jumping. I'll try to get that one up for you to see. And yes I think he's really beautiful and I was wondering if his foals would look like him, and I think they do. Attached is a picture of his other daughter.
