A friend of mine is considering breeding a very tall (over 17 hands) Anglo-Trakehner mare by Justiz. She wants a smaller stallion with particularly good feet and front legs. The mare has not been inspected because she is too tall to get into my friend's trailer.
The mare has exceptionally good movement. Friend wants a dressage type, not a jumper.
Any suggestions for stallions? No frozen options available as the mare can't be trailered out.
E-mail me directly as this friend is one of the few not on the internet.
Try Happy Hour. He is 16 hands but moves very uphill and looks much bigger. Has some wonderful babies from last year. Check out his web site for more info.
There are 2 very nice approved arabian stallions that you might check out, plus there are many "refiner" stallions to choose from as well. (You would have to check on registration issues with the arabians, since she is an Anglo-Trakehner)
If your mare hasn't foaled before, then you don't really know if she will pass on her size so it will be a guess in the beginning.
Below are ones that I would consider refiners for my mare (16.1 and big boned): Advocate Aul Magic ox Feuertanzer Incantare Leonidas Magritte There are many others as well. These were the ones on my list.
Don't forget that you can get a great deal from the ATA Stallion Service Sealed Bid Auction! Go to the ATA website for details. I won a bid to Advocate and I can't wait for the baby.
Dianne: Thanks so much for your recommendation about Happy Hour. He's certainly continuing the trend of generations of his predecessors in producing very correct foals of very good size and bone, with 3 lovely, uphill and powerful gaits - and all have lovely temperaments. All thus far are certainly off to an excellent start for a successful performance and/or breeding career. We very anxiously await next spring for quite a number more babies! Again, thanks for your recommendation!
You might want to look at Savant--he's got the dressage ability and a really good guy--smaller and finer--might just be the right mix--you can contact me or Brilor Farms
