Go, Bellinger, Go!
|
Just back from the BFK Spring rated dressage show at the USET Headquarters in Gladstone, NJ, where Trakehners ruled the roost. I had the pleasure of meeting Tracy Durham and her gelding Emperor (Unkenruf-Estelle). They scored well in Saturday's Grand Prix, and performed their very fun Grand Prix Kur today.
Also present was Beth Higgins' five year old homebred Celtic (Martini-Carissima), ridden by Ivan Kelly. I left before his final ride today, but he had earned two wins and a second at Training Level, all with fine scores. I believe this was the horse's first show; he was very brave!
My Bellinger (Maizauber-Belle Petite) and I also got our feet wet for the first time this season. We won Saturday's I2 with a 64.6%, and were second (by 7 points!) in the Grand Prix today to a full brother to Donnerhall. Not bad, if I do say so myself!
Our three boys posed for a photo in front of Hamilton Farm's beautiful balcony; I'll post it as soon as I get a copy.

I LOVE Trakehners!

Thanks for the report..... sorry to say that I had a good cry over this posting in the dark of the night last night. I lost Emperor's younger sister to a pasture accident as a 4 year old. She would have been 10 this year. Bay with tabiano markings........
The first time that I saw Emporer, I walked out of his stall, looked Debra of Tylord farms and asked if they had bred the mare back to Unkenruf. She said, Yes. I said, if it is a filly, I want it. She was stunning...... and the smartest horse that I have ever handled.
She used to play games with the grooms at the stable I kept her at for a while. She would meekly move to the back of the stall when they came in to water her. Then when they had shut but not latched the door and moved to the water bucket, she would spin to the door, slide it open and trot merrily down the aisle. I moved her shortly thereafter, as I could just see her mind working on the next "game" she could think of. Boy, do I miss her......
