Whewwwww.

I was standing in the dining room looking down at the horse paddock this morning at 9AM thinking, I will wait another 15 minutes before I leave for work.....  And he arrived!!  By Paniolo (Pyatt Charly) out of Jubilance by Enrico Caruso, a bay colt. Sherry Tourino was here visiting and assisted with the birth and the entire neighborhood came out to see him take his first steps.

I have to admit with a paddock right on the street in a residential area, you can cause quite a scene!  However, while the mare was down, everyone stayed respectfully out of range until the mare was up and junior was attempting to stand.  He is almost a carbon copy of mom and as a first time foal I could not be more pleased (well, I was hoping for one of those Bay Fillies, so popular this year).    Have tons of newborn pics and am waiting for the vet to arrive to give everyone the "all clear".  Mom and baby are doing great at 3.5 hours... and I get to sleep tonight!!!  Jr. was 10 days late and I am tired.

Oh yea, more good news, the clinic called today and Jubilance's sister Joanna is in foal to Summertime.  Let's hope that she holds onto it as she is only at 14 days... but I am thrilled!

Was hesitant to post this link as he is just foaled and I would call these pictures "first steps."  Still wet and wobbly in most of them.  He has filled out nicely and is bouncing around like a little rubber ball now.  Very pretty and athletic.  And he is really good with visitors, walking up to the fence for his requisite pet and then running back to Mom for a meal.  While I usually don't judge my foals for about a week or so, I will definitely say that this boy gets a 9 for looks and a 10 for temperament.  He is just as sweet as they come.

Still haven't decided on a name.  Joseph, Jonathan, Jason and Joshua are in the running.  I also like Jamison.  Somehow, none of them seem to "fit" yet.  His dam's name is Jubilance and she is by Enrico Caruso.  Baby is her first.

Congratulations!  He's very cute.  It's so amazing how much they change in those first 2-3 weeks.  Would love to see 3 week old pics!!!

Thanks.  I cannot see past his "cuteness" either to really evaluate him as a first foal!  Don't know that anyone other than his mom were this pretty!  I am waiting to see what he looks like in a few weeks as well and will post pics again later.

Need help on a name...... thinking of Jamison, barn name Jami.  We have tried Joseph, Jonathan, and a few others but they just seem so stern and serious for such an attractive, sweet little thing.  Smiley

Jubilation, Jubilee, JuJube, Jericho, Jeremiah, Jeremy,Joyful Offering,Josephus (maybe he'll make history!),

I often end up with a barn name that has nothing to do with the registered name.  e.g. had a gelding named FP Shamanic Dream, but called him Finn, and a filly named Pregel's Pirouette and called her Retta.

I'm like Joy -- horses often have two names, a cute name for a barn name, and something that would sound nice at a show.

My Fortune Smiles is called Ricky.

My First Amendment is called Buster.

If I come up with a name that works for both purposes, I'm happy but it doesn't always work out that way.

I think all of my fillies, tho, just have their one name.

The more I look at this foal, the more I am sure that he is a clone..... of his mom.  I will pull out pics to be sure over the next weekend, but she was just as adorable and pretty.  Not sure what that tells me about her as a broodmare, or maybe about the sire, but he looks like a clone to me.  Hmm.......

Still like Jamison/Jami and it seems to be growing on me.   If I can find someone with a scanner, I will scan pics of mom at the same age and get everyone's second opinion.

Thanks for all of the thoughts on a name.  I will post more pics when he fills out a bit and we can get some "action shots" of him moving.

Congratulations!  What a nice time of the day for her to foal!  Looks like several people enjoyed the experience with you!  Good luck with him!

What about Jacinto since he's a California kid?  Although I like Jamison too.
