Effective advertising

Where does everyone advertise their horses for sale, the internet, magazines, etc...?  Which ones are most effective?

I've had good luck selling horses on the internet.  Some sites are definitely better than others, and if you don't have a photo, don't bother.  A video is a must.  I've also sold two horses by word of mouth as well, and had absolutely no sales via magazine, which by far cost the most.

I'll tell you where we bought ours:
We bought our first Trakehner off the ATA site.  Photo was key, otherwise we would not have gone to see him.  The second horse, we saw on the ATA site, Saw more pics on her website, met the breeder at Midwest Horse Fair & saw her advertised in the Sporthorse Sales list.   Smiley  Videos are great, though simply seeing great pictures will also get us to drive for hours to see the right horse.   Also, a lovely Trakehner mare a friend of ours bought, was seen on the ATA site.   As a riding Instructor, most of my students looking for horses are 1. looking online 2. buying from sources they already know or 3. Buying from sources they learn about at events like Midwest Horse Fair, Clinics, ect.

I agree w/Christina & Joy - people want to see these horses on the interenet - a key word can bring many choices of sites to visit while horse shopping.   Magazine ads are fine, but presume your prospective buyer either subscribes or receives a copy of the magazine some other way.

I purchased my first horse, a mare, after finding the breeder listed on the ATA web site.  The breeder had a web site, and emailed me current pictures, and even went out into the barn the next day and made a current videotape of Holly (who was two, and the only current video she had was as a yearling).  I liked the extra touch.  The video was not anything fancy, but I got a good sense of the horse, temperament, movement, etc.  At the time, I was living in Boston and the breeder was in IN.  Since price was one of my considerations, I really could not just fly out to look at the horse.  I bought her based on the video and a routine vet-check and have had no regrets.  The breeder was 100% honest with me about every little aspect, even the not so positive points (Holly's bossiness, for instance).  

Holly is so fabulous I even bought second horse from the same breeder.   Grin

Hi, I'm new to Trakehners and I am going to be selling a few for a breeder. They are all under 4, so a few 3 year olds, 2 year olds, yearlings and weanlings. How is the market for selling young horses, and where should I advertise these guys. I presume it would be  a little different since they are all babies...
