I love Trakehners!

Kumi is chairing the Dressage at Devon committee to promote the Trakehner breed. She and I have been putting out heads together to come up with different ideas to "get the word" out about how wonderful our horses are - after all this IS the World's Largest Breed Show, and only the Best of the Best attend!!
We wrote an article for the Trakehner Newsletter begging for volunteers, sponsors (we have some special awards and presentations planned that will cost $$), ideas etc. But I realise that not everyone that has a Trakehner reads or receives the newsletter (and they are having to cut it for length), so I've cut and pasted the entire article to post on various "Trakehner BBs". Please feel free to spread the word - esp about stabeling together in the "Trakehner Barn"!

DRESSAGE at DEVON
Dressage at Devon (DAD) is rapidly approaching. Dates are September 27 - October 2, 2005. This show combines world class dressage competition and the world's largest Open Breed Show. Horses, riders and trainers from all over North America attend this show annually, and winners at DAD have a certain "cache" within the horse world as only the best of the best attend and place at this show.
As owners of Trakehners we want to promote our horses as much as possible at this show. For many in the horse world, particularly in Dressage, Trakehners are the "forgotten horses" - most tend to think of the other warmblood breeds. They don't necessarily remember how many of our fine horses have succeded in the upper levels of Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping and other disciplines, and how they play an instrumental role in refining and defining other breeds. A large showing of Trakehner horses at an event like DAD, with information about the history, bloodlines, successes and breeders would be a huge promotional opportunity.
Last year a call was put out inviting everyone that had a Trakehner horse to stable together. Only a handful of the horses that were shown at DAD actually responded. We would like this to be different this year. If you are going to DAD, mark your stabling forms as stabling with the Trakehner Barn and let’s join forces and give the spectators and participants the opportunity to see how beautiful this breed truely is! Not only is this a great PR opportunity, but it would be nice to meet each other and offer support both in and out of the competition ring.
Just as important is the need for sponsors. There are several things we would like to offer, but need the help of donations or sponsorships. First, we would like to offer additional prizes for the Trakehner Individual Breed Class (IBC) at least through 3rd place. Last year this was a HUGE hit – thanks to Carol Schueler’s fabulous donations. We would like to repeat again this year. Second, we hope to be able to set up an extra stall to display the ATA literature, stallion and breeding farm information, videos, and other items of interest for the public to take home with them or view. We can set all of this outside the stall area, but the alleys at DAD are small and not conducive to displaying very much information - a stall for the duration of the Breed Show would allow us to present more information and allow for better traffic flow through the barn area. Sponsorship can take the place of donating the prize itself, or donating money to go towards a prize or display stall. Of course, all donations will be mentioned and honored in print and if anyone would like to sponsor a prize for the IBC winners, you will also be mentioned during the presentation.
We want to bring the Trakehner into the mainstream and dispel some of the myths that still float around among the horse world. This is an excellent venue to present our horses in the show ring and for hundreds to observe. We would like to encourage you to participate, and pledge your participation, volunteer time, or monetary donation – a little goes a long way. We hope this can extend into a permanent fund for other important venues, such as Rolex, Spruce Meadows and other national shows that bring so many in the horse world together and that generate so much interest.
