Great Job Helmut and Taz!

The date of the show is today's date, Feb. 17th. He came in 1st out of 13 entries in one class, 6th of 11 entries in another class and 4th out of 6 entries in the last class. Points added up to Training Jumper Division Champion. I think I am correct on that information.

Finally made it home from St. Louis much more "versed" in the world of hunter/jumpers! Head up, you're right about how the championship gets awarded.
Thanks to everyone for their good thought (sorry Sally Ann . . . no photographer showed up until Friday @ noon when all the juniors & amateur hunters started showig . . . guess they know how to follow the real money!) However, I did get a DVD of two of his classes. I may be able to pull a jpg off w/photoshop & if so, will post it.
Honestly, while it's great he won, the best thing was watching him learn exponentially with each class. These two are having a great time together - especially when they get to do the speed classes (go figure!).
Next show is probably the end of March - we'll keep everyone posted!

Congratulations on your win. Keep in mind however, since I suspect you are new to the horse show circuit, that winning a training class only means that speed brought you the win. A training class should be just that "training", with hopes of a successful future. Make sure you work with your trainer to see if you are on the same page for long term goals. Some of the best jumpers in the world never won training jumper classes. They completed the course carefully and with the confidence that a young horse needs. Be careful not to overface your young horse...he won't bring you your desired breeding fees or the recognition you desire. Take your time - help your horse by putting him in the correct hands and have a good time. Again, congratulations.

New to the show circuit? Hardly, just to jumpers! Never fear, Taz's career has been carefully managed since he first wore a saddle! (As I said initially, the best part of the show was seeing the exponential learning curve he was on.)
BTW, one thing you missed on your initial report (# of entries & placing in each class) were his double-clears in these classes. I agree that fast only gets you so far . . . but fast and careful is exactly what you want to see.
Thanks for your interest and comments, and welcome to the forum!

I am late to this party, but congratulations, Kim!
I love watching Helmut ride--his style is unmistakable! It was a real treat to see him ride Tzigane at Houston. Of course, you kind of had a "ringer" there for the jumping stake purse, but all is fair in love and horses...
Good luck!

I want to clarify my last post regarding the pictures of Taz in St. Louis. I have never seen a rider jump a 3'6" to 3'9" fence standing up in his stirrups like that. That's what took my breath away.

Ingrid, First of all, if one can't make a comment negative or positive on your board without being called names, I am not sure what the purpose of the boards are for. My interest in the breeding/bloodlines of Trakehner is a genuine one. With the public interest in showjumping on TV now, the clear lack of Trakehner's is evident. If a goal of Trakehner breeders is to produce the quality of which we see in the show jumping world, would jumper breeding bloodlines not be important? By your own admission, the breed has not focused on show jumping performance horses.
With regards to the photos of Taz, the pictures say it all. I hope the riders jumping style is not considered correct on the pictures posted. The horse looks like it certainly has potential and a willingness to do his job. Riders are not judged on style in the jumper ring, but the photo took me by surprise.
I am really surprised at your response. As far as getting a warm welcome from the ATA, I will only say that posts seen on other forums indicate the ATA has a long way to go in welcoming new members and new ideas or opinions. I think the last time I called someone a name was in kindergarden. After that, we all grew up.

Heads Up, whoever you may be.
First, this is a private site, not an official site of the ATA.
Second, if you think "troll" is a name to be called, you are obviously new to online forums as well as Trakehners. A troll is someone who comes onto a discussion board and makes inflammatory--or even incendiary--posts, with no productive purpose and generally for the sole purpose of upsetting people. Such comments as the derogative one you made regarding Advocate in comparison to Horalas, and taking two punches to poke fun at Helmut's riding in response to my compliment, are the type of posts that trolls make. As you are new to posting here, at the time I posted in this thread in response to you you were 3 for 7 on the troll post average. Some of your other posts have been snobbish if not truly trollesque. If the shoe fits, wear it.
If anyone thinks posting here under an alias for the sole or primary purpose of belittling other people is going to be tolerated for long, they are mistaken. Regardless of the policy in other forums, I do not choose to maintain this area to support such purposes.
Before kindergarten, most of us learned something about diplomacy and behaving in polite society. And by kindergarten, most of us had learned to not say something we would be ashamed or embarrassed to put our names behind.
As for Helmut and his style, if you haven't seen him ride and have only a photo to scrutinize and draw your opinions of him, you may want to see him ride in person.

Heads Up, whoever you may be. My profile gives my email address, not afraid of whom I am.
First, this is a private site, not an official site of the ATA. What does that mean? Private? My country club is private; this site has no parameters as to qualifications for “membership” on to your site.
Second, if you think "troll" is a name to be called, you are obviously new to online forums as well as Trakehners. A troll is someone who comes onto a discussion board and makes inflammatory--or even incendiary--posts, with no productive purpose and generally for the sole purpose of upsetting people. Such comments as the derogative one you made regarding Advocate in comparison to Horalas, I stand by my comments. You cannot possibly compare Horalas to Advocate. Look at the performance on record history for both stallions. Advocate stayed in the Midwest and was moderately successful. The Palatine show is run by the Park District – hardly Spruce Meadows. I am not slamming Advocate - he is who he is - a nice, moderately succesful Mid-west jumper stallion.
Such comments as the derogative one you made regarding Advocate in comparison to Horalas, and taking two punches to poke fun at Helmut's riding in response to my compliment, are the type of posts that trolls make. I guess we have different standards. I tend to side with the USEF standards.
If anyone thinks posting here under an alias for the sole or primary purpose of belittling other people is going to be tolerated for long, they are mistaken. Regardless of the policy in other forums, I do not choose to maintain this area to support such purposes. Whatever.
Before kindergarten, most of us learned something about diplomacy and behaving in polite society. And by kindergarten, most of us had learned to not say something we would be ashamed or embarrassed to put our names behind. You must have been an exceptional child. Congratulations. One sticky gold star for you.
As for Helmut and his style, if you haven't seen him ride and have only a photo to scrutinize and draw your opinions of him, you may want to see him ride in person I have. Thanks.

In your previous post, you said
As far as getting a warm welcome from the ATA, I will only say that posts seen on other forums indicate the ATA has a long way to go in welcoming new members and new ideas or opinions.
My statement was in response to yours. We are all just people who like Trakehners. Not a group mutually exclusive of the ATA, of course, but not having anything to do with it officially.
I stand by my comments. You are entitled to your opinion. But when Advocate and Horalas were both mentioned as Grand Prix competitors--which they are--you chose to knock one down relative to the other. Thus the troll-ishness of the comment.
I guess we have different standards. I tend to side with the USEF standards.
To my knowledge the USEF has no standards as to what constitutes a troll.
That said, I notice that your later posts have been much more civil and I thank you for that.
As for Helmut and his style, if you haven't seen him ride and have only a photo to scrutinize and draw your opinions of him, you may want to see him ride in person[/b] I have. Thanks. Well, again, your opinion is your own. Hopefully other people sharing photos of him riding their horses, and others expressing their opinions and compliments, will not result in your further loss of breath.

First of all, this "troll" name has to stop. I have been in the hunter/jumper world for sometime and know a good jumper rider when I see one. As for your "trollish" comments about me regarding jumpers/riders and their style also has to stop. Clearly this site is not open to opinions from others from outside your circle of friends. I have no time for this. My inquiries were based on research of Trakhner jumper breeders and bloodlines. I am not taking sides on anything, although clearly, you are.
I am looking for bloodlines that will produce the best Trakehner jumpers. I have seen some that qualify. However, I will take this topic to another board.
