If anyone is interested in this mare I own a full sister named Dahlia. I would be happy to share any information. This mare line has quite an interesting and productive story.

How sad is this? The older ad was from July of this year so this mare was apparently sold to someone in July and is now being resold this month? ?? And in such condition? ? Feel sorry for the poor thing. Wish I had the space and money for her!

It does seem to be a sad story. She was sold less than 6 months ago (I had inquired on her originally, and they "got to her first", so to speak.) I did e-mail them and ask WHY they are selling her so soon, thinking perhaps she turned out to be more horse than they wanted to handle, as the ad states she needs an experienced rider. But, instead, they responded that they bought her for their 15-turning-16 year old daughter, who has now simply "found other interests" (including a drivers license and a boyfriend). Sigh. If I had the cash I'd buy her, since I seem to have a thing for "oldies". But I spent my "mare money" on Oprah and Sonndance this fall.

It is horrible how neglected she has been in the past 6 months. I wish I had the money and room for her, I am such a sucker for the "needy" animals.

I made them an offer on her, but from their initial reply they want the full asking price, "since she's a Trakehner, and they rarely sell for less than 5000. "
I havent heard back from them, so I hope someone is able to help this deserving gal out.

What idiots!!! All kinds of thoughts are going through my mind about them... they obviously neglect a horse (underweight etc) and still think that she is worth the orig asking price... they don't want her obviously, and get an offer but don't snap it up..... TKs never sell less than $5000? ?? Sorry for the rant (and you should see what is really going on in my mind!), but I have a killer sinus headache and don't have the patience for idiots today!

Meant to add: sixpound, let us (me) know what happens if they reconsider etc... if necessary I'm only 3 hours away from Jax and could go and pick her up or look at her etc...

suzette - I'm right there with you! I actually talked to you about taking your mare a while back....
If I had the space and money I would take this mare, but unless it was short term I just can't do it.
Frankly, the owners should just either give her to a good home if someone was willing to take her, or sell her at a reduced price - it was THEIR daughter who decided after 6 months of owning a horse that she was more interested in boys! GRRRRRRRR!!!! ...

Well, I seriously doubt I'll hear back. Sounds like they're first time owners, boarding the horse and don't know that 18 is not the best age for selling a "prospect" Or whatever they labeled her as. The horse's previous ad billed her at trained to 3rd, but didnt indicate she was a beginner's horse.
The sad part that they probably dont realize that for the time they take to sell her for the price they want, they'll have spent a considerable amount in board alone. Silly.

If this mare is being boarded, why is she so thin? First time owners may not know how to feed, but a boarding facility should.
Perhaps the BO could be contacted about why this mare has been allowed to go so far downhill in such a short time. If their names were linked to such a poor feeding program, would not be good for their reputation -- of course the horse is standing there and people surely see it. So maybe they truly don't care.

There is a whole mess going on the chornicle about this horse. The owners responded to someones inquiry and apparently they bought the horse for the daughter who has lost interest. The owners responded and you can catch the whole as the BB turns if your really interested but here is the current owners response "We bought Dahlie earlier this year for my 15 year old daughter who has been been riding for several years. However, since she turned 16 and got her Driver's License and car she has not been spending much time with her. That is why we have put Dahlie up for sale. We have her boarded at Penney Farms which is about 30 minutes away and that has also made it somewhat difficult for her to get to see her as much as we would like. This is the first and only horse we have owned and have relied on the boarding stable to keep her fed and healthy. She has not had any problems since we have owned her but have also noticed recently that she appeared to be losing weight. We have talked to the stable about changing her diet and had the vet come out to look at her last week to make sure there was no medical issues. He said nothing appeared to be wrong but is running some tests to be sure. We are waiting on the results. As far as her being a broodmare, we believe she has been before and my daughter said the people who were also looking at Dahlie when we bought her this year were also going to use her as a broodmare. She is registered at 16 and 1/2 hands by the ATA. We think Dahlie's biggest problem is simply neglect. She spends most of her time out to pasture as my daughter simply hasn't had the interest in riding that she did when she was younger. Dahlie needs to go to a good home. We will be glad to share with you the results of the tests as we believe she is healthy and just needs someone who can spend some time with her. Thank you for your interest in Dahlie. We hope this answers your questions but we would be happy to answer any others you might have. Merry Christmas! Bob & Trisha"

I am only 10 minutes from Penney Farms in Florida! That really breaks my heart. I am tempted to go and look at her. Did they say what stable in Penney Farms?
Wendi
p.s. If I get kicked out of the house, can the mare and I come and stay with anyone?

Anyone know what happened to this mare? It looks like the mare is listed at $3500 in the first ad, which is more affordable than "at least $5000". Unfortunately, I'm not able to take her on.

I saw her ad go back up again at Equine.com recently. They never replied to my offer. It was low, but fair.

I made an offer as well. I think it was also a fair offer. She did explain that they would try to get the weight back on her and have their daughter ride her more. Then I never heard back.

I saw her ad (no picture) on equine.com yesterday, 28 Feb. The price was $3,500. It's terrible that when she was young, she made some person very proud as owner of a Model Mare, and now when she needs help, she's all alone. Oh, to have money and a pasture and some youth left in me.

It just so happens that I will be in that area in a couple of weeks, and will have a horse trailer headed to my house from there (my daughter is down there for some extra training.) I contacted the owners to see if I can come see her. I'll keep you all informed ( aren't we all suckers for a needy case??) CINDY

Hi everyone... Here is an update on the *M* mare Dahlie. I saw her persoanally on March 14, 2006. She is looking good!! No ribs, good overall flesh, only her topline shows the recent bad fortune she's had ( but she's coming 19 yrs old, so that can apply to an older mare). She's on lush green grass with mulitple other horses, but she had no bite marks, etc on her. As I said, she is almost 19 yrs old. She's a large-looking mare, and moves very big also...big stride. She seemed calm, and remained focused even while her pasture-mates were calling to her. At first she was a little "rooted" in up-transistions, but she started freeing up as we worked with her to lift. We were very careful to work her VERY little, since I suspect she is quite out of shape. She seemed sound, and her feet are good. She was inspected and given her model status at the ATA annual meeting held in Florida at Jean Brinkman's farm several years ago. She scored a 59...all 8's except for a 9 for trot. She does have a nice trot. Her inspector was Sam Eidt. She has produced 2 babies in recent years, both turned out to be more hunter type than dressage type. If anyone is interested in more information about her, feel free to email me, I'd be happy to share. Have a good day, CINDY FRANTZ cindyfrantz@gahangel.com

So, Cindy...are you bringing an EMPTY trailer home, then?
Joie
P.S. Tansy is feeling much better. I look forward to talking again when you're back at home. Safe travels...
