To any of you in Katrina's path, we are in central Texas, 20 miles west of Austin, and have room to take horses in pasture, plus two stalls, if needed.  Our phone is 512-858-0918 and email is lara@gryphonfarm.com

Lara, that's great of you.  Unfortunately, it looks like a lot of stuff, people and critters are in a very bad situation.  And the roads out of there are so jammed (at least of the TV news), it looks like there's not much place to go.  As it is, we'll likely get the remains if Katrina later this week, and that means my barn will flood  . . .  again . . . . ugh.

We are still able to offer assistance to approximately five horses, three for paddock or pasture, and two stalls open.  We have a three horse trailer and are willing to go get the horses, if we can get into your area.  If your horses are still in need of assistance, please call or email me.

You might consider contacting the USEF.  It has created a list of people with space to care for horses.  Just go to this website and you can get info about doing that.

Thank you for posting that info here, Jennifer.  I registered with them last week, but I see my farm is still not on the list.  I imagine they are really scrambling to keep up.  I received the following auto-reply:

You have reached Karen Adams in the Marketing Dept. of the United States Equestrian Federation.  If you are contacting USEF to offer shelter and services for Hurricane Katrina Equine Relief, we have received an overwhelming response therefore, we are not accepting any further phone calls.  We are now accepting emails volunteering shelter & services from the following states ONLY:  TX, FL, AL, MS, LA, GA, and AR.  If you live in one of these states, we are accepting offers of help by email only.  Please do not send duplicate emails.  We are working hard to update the list in a timely manner.  Thank you to all who care so much about our equine friends.

The USEF website no longer has information to volunteer your farm, however they are taking contributions online, via fax and mail: http://www.usef.org/relief/index.php
