WEG

I am hoping that this information is of interest to readers, even though we do not have a Trakehner to crow about (especially one in particular....). But we do definitely have a certain rider to watch - our friend, ally, partner, and long-time Trakehner rider/breeder/trainer/judge/fan/expert Darren Chiacchia! I am going to paste in this piece which appeared on Equisearch this morning (www.equisearch.com) and hope it is newsworthy here.
"September 3, 2002 — The United States Equestrian Team (USET) has announced that the following horse-and-rider combinations were named to the Squad for the 2002 World Equestrian Games (WEG) Eventing Team: Darren Chiacchia on RG Renegade
Gina Miles on McKinlaigh
David O'Connor on Custom Made or Giltedge
Kimberly Severson – Vinoski on Royal Venture or Winsome Adante
Amy Tryon on My Beau or Poggio II
John Williams on Carrick
These horse/rider combinations represent the USA Definite Entry for the 2002 WEG Eventing Competition. The following horse/rider combinations were named as alternates to the Squad:
Darren Chiacchia on Power Ty
Nina Fout on 3 Magic Beans
Bruce Davidson, Jr. on Class Touch
Bruce Davidson, Jr. opted to start the endurance phase of the Burghley CCI**** on Saturday, August 31, 2002 thereby opting to withdraw from further consideration for selection for the 2002 WEG Eventing Team.
The Team, Individuals and alternate that will travel to Spain on Monday, September 9, 2002 will be named on Sunday, September 8, 2002. "
For those who did not know, Darren entered his xx Power Ty in the Burghley CCI**** but withdrew before xc after a pretty mediocre dressage performance, so as to preserve PT's eligibility for alternate for the WEG. Buck Davidson fell at the Burghley and apparently cracked a vertebrae, but that was not official yet. Holly Hepp, riding Bernardo Piskorz's imported Trakehner gelding Lester Piggott, was about 15th after dressage at Burghley but withdrew before xc for unknown reason. That's all the news thats fit to print! (unless I can go anonymous, of course..... ) Tim

That's really excellent news, Tim. Darren worked so hard for it, I hope he has a "lucky" run with Reggie. I have him in my thoughts and will watch him on TV for sure.
At least there are two Trakehners we can cheer for, Larissa (by Target) from Canada and Vilano (by Consul) from Germany, both in eventing. Unfortunately, Germany's best event horse of the season, the Trak mare Eos by Rockefeller, was injured in the last trainign camp and is going home already.
