Just wondering what foals you are expecting come spring. I've got an Ichi Ban foal coming from my maiden TB mare. Should be an interesting cross, I'm thinking hunter thoughts!

We're expecting two Tzigane foals around St. Patrick's Day (won't that be fun thinking of names?!).  We were so thrilled w/Herzmond last year, we re-bred Hennie (Muenchhausen TSF - E.H. Rockefeller) and are keeping our fingers crossed for a filly.  The second one will be out of our maiden mare, Pr.St. Schoene Symphonie (Polarpunkt - E.H. Tenor).   Kiss

I'm going to be trying to get one started for the next spring.  Any of you guys ever use the stallion service auction?  There are a couple interesting buys in there, but I'm unsure of shipped semen - my mare took three or four tries to get her in foal the first time - and I no longer have a "spare".

Shadrach (Karino's Fire) covered two mares this year and is expecting to be the sire of two foals in early summer.
The first one we know already is a filly,   it is his first foal ever Smiley I'll be a very exciting to see how he produces!

Hi Fuzzy,  I've used the SSA before and had mostly good luck. The not-so-good came with a stallion that turned out not to ship well.  The ATA helped me get another stallion, so all worked out all right anyway, though it took an extra year.  I've found it to be a wonderful way to try new stallions and to afford an otherwise unaffordable stallion.  One caution, though.  If you win the bid and then end up with no broodmare-DON"T give it up!  I did that last year, and had a mare drop into my lap a month or two later.  Aaargh!  I am still kicking myself.

Well, if worst came to worst, I think I could get a mare from a client of mine who has some darn fine Arabs - but of course I'd much rather have one from my own (PSB) mare.  Also, have there been any security hang-ups messing up shipments of semen from Canada?

Just an FYI if anyone is interested, an endurance club in Nevada is having a stallion service auction and I noticed Aul magic is listed.  I'm not advertising for anyone, just thought since we were talkn about SSA's...
The bids start at $300. http://www.nastr.org/stallion/AU.htm  to get to the main page you will have to go to www.nastr.org  saw the add in Endurance News magazine and thought someone in here might be interested.  Cool
Happy Trails to you... we need a singing smiley face....

My mare wouldn't take this past year!!!  Sad  She  is the dam of my colt by Impressionist that did so well this year, and yes we were rebreeding her to same stud... We tried to breed her several times - with vet, ultrasounds, etc and no go.  The bad news is, we have to biopsy her to find out what is wrong.  Vet feels something is definetly wrong as she should have taken either of the last two times (she was defiently ovulating at the time of insemination).  Ultrasound shows cloudiness over Right ovary...  Sad  So no TK babies, but I will have a LATE (Sept) pony baby out  of my Welsh cross (11.3 hh) and by a Connamarra stud!!   Cheesy

We only bred 2 last year - we're expecting a Paramoure foal out of a Butow mare and our first Tanzeln foal out of a Memelruf mare.  We can hardly wait!

Be sure to post pics of The Paramoure foal!  I love to see them.  I am so proud of my Paramoure baby (Frodo) and he is turning into such a wonderful boy.

I wish I had a foal due this year, but it will be a few more years before that happens again.  I am living vicariously through all of you.  Cool

Shawnda, the Waitaki foal sounds very interesting, what did you like about him (other than he is flat out gorgeous!)

acotton: I've got a problem mare too that I am considering trying again. She is 18 and its just going to get harder. She has given me 2 great foals from Advocate and Stiletto but she wasn't easy to get started! She had a false pregnancy last year as her latest trick, who knows what she'll try this year.

well, I try to breed for jumpers, and with his uphill, very athletic build, I thought he would be a great choice for my mare.  Also my mare is line bred to Caprimond, so I was also looking for "outside blood".  The plus is that he is only available in Europe so I am bringing that outside blood to North America.  Now lets hope for a filly !

Karen - thanks for the encouragement!  My coming 2 year old colt was her first foal - she will be 14 next year.  We had problems getting her to settle her first year too (it took all of the first year breeding her - 7 covers - plus one additional cover the next year to get my colt) so I'm not entirely surprised that she is so difficult to settle this time!  Hopefully it won't be anything major.  It is sicking to think that this colt could be the only offspring from this cross!  The vet did an ultrasound on her the other day and she has cloudiness over her right ovary so we'll biopsy her in the next month or so and see what happens.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for your mare as well as mine!

Christina - I'm curious to know how you know that one of the stallion's first two babies will be a filly.  Did you do a test?  I'll be curious to find out how accurate it is if you did!

I don't have a Trakehener coming next year, but I do have a foal on the way that will be registered Oldenburg (GOV) (although mom and pop come from mostly Westphalian breeding).  Mom's my Romana (Ramiros Son I/Lustig II/Romulus I) and Pop's Pablo (Pilot/Matrox/Lancelot).  Should be some jumping ability and good movement, too!  (Actually, there is some Trakehener in the pedigrees of Romana and Pablo.  Romana goes back to Ramzes [I know, he's anlgo-arab, but an influence in Trakeheners, too] via both her mother and father.  Pablo goes back to Ramzes and Keith.)

I'm not sure if I will breed Romana next year.  But, I keep thinking that I might, and that I might breed her to a Trakehner that is GOV approved.  I've sort of been thinking about Michelangelo for her for some time.  Pablo was a great choice for her, too.  I decided to go with him because I thought the match had potential and I could get fresh semen which I thought would increase my chances as she hadn't had a foal (or been bred) for 2 years.  Her other 2 foals were conceived with frozen; however, since she was 14 this year and open I thought I'd play it more conservatively and go with fresh semen from a stallion with good quality semen, that has proven himself with his offspring and undersaddle, who wasn't showing anymore, and who has an owner who is great to work with.  It's very annoying when you are trying to breed to a stallion who always seems to be off at a show the weekend when you need to breed your mare!  This is one of Murphy's Laws of horse breeding!

Of course, there's always some new stallion stallion coming along to consider or some new stallion in the US to consider!  This is part of the fun!

WI Equine Clinic ultra sounded the mare last month.   Apparently the fillies udder shape is much different than
the colt's gear.  1 is a clear triangle (filly I believe).  The other simply is not. 92% accuracy.  Wink I'll let you know in June!
Here is the dam, Our Finest Hour, she is owned and shown by a teenage girl.

OH that is just too cool!!!  I was told that you can't ultrasound after a certain date as the foal is just too big to be able to see anything but "mass" - how many months along is she??  I will be very interested to see how accurate it is!

My mare Lucy Mae is in foal to Pablo for an early October 2005 foal. I had to think hard about using a mare with special Trakehner bloodlines outside the registry. The foal will be registered Swedish. I decided that this breeding needed to be to a stallion with some major international credentials. That narrows the field considerably.

Pablo does have Trakehner in his pedigree, which was a bonus, but not the driving force in my decision. I have a breeding to a nice Trakehner, but he wasn't available when I needed semen shipped. Also, I was not willing to pay upfront for a new breeding that might or might not work with shipped semen, and the owner was willing to work with me, which was the deal closer.

Well, the neighbors dogs found a fetus in the field this past week, and I'm pretty sure it was the Waitaki baby out of Zaubermaus.  So I'll will only be expecting one baby next year.  I am very much looking forward to a new year, as I don't think I'll ever have as bad a year as 2004 was !

Shawnda,  So sorry to hear about your loss!

Oakstable,
I didn't base my decision on the Trakehner in Pablo's pedigree...I was just establishing a connection to this forum...alright! its a slim connection!  It was just an interesting bit of info!  Marefield Meadows has 2 Pablo daughters one of which has Ramiro and which I saw at a clinic about training a horse to jump in the chute at Hilltop Farm early this year.  She was an example of a horse that knnew how to do it.  A very powerful jumper!  She got a 9 in her mare performace testing for jumping in 2003.  So, I'm rather optimistic.

We are expecting 8 foals this year are excited about every cross.  The most anticipated foal, though, is probably the Askar AA foal out of the beautiful Maizauber daughter, Padua Go.  I can't decide if I want a filly or a colt from that cross.  The other crosses are:

Feuertaenzer x Pagan (Kaspareit)
Tanzeln x Tropenperle (Tempelritter)
Kostolany x Sidney (Schubert)
Kostolany x Victree (Kaspareit)
Leonidas x Kalliste (Amadeus)
Emeer x Marcella (Vincent)
Incantare x Reika (PSB TB)

Good luck to everyone on their foaling and rebreeding in 2005!
