No thread yet for foals of 2012 so posting here. Congratulations to Steven and Sandra Wilkes on the chestnut filly, born February 25th to their imported mare Holme Park First Class (E.H. Beg - Holme Grove Solomon).
Where is the chrome and color coming from? Very nice baby.
The color most likely from the dam side of the pedigree http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/holme+park+first+class but Taz has several chestnut offspring - many out of bay/dark bay mares. All 3 of my (bay) mares' first foals were chestnut. Have produced 4 subsequent foals - all bay/dark bay. So there's obviously a recessive gene @ work here - betting someone else knows how this works and what the odds are of producing chestnuts from two bay parents.
Taz only has a few white hairs on his forehead but a lot of his foals have chrome. I heard Condus had a lot of chrome (as grey's age it disappears) and if that's the case, it appears in subsequent generations.
