Help Name the Farm
« on: October 31, 2004, 08:15:48 PM »

Am anxiously awaiting the news on the offer I made to purchase 25 acres of raw land.  Starting from scratch so need to build house, barn & arenas.  It's so exciting and terrifying at the same time!

So...as a distraction - I've been trying to name the farm and am coming up blank.  My trainer thinks I should incorporate "Trakehner" in it - since he's sure I'd never own another breed.   Wink

Can anyone help with any ideas?

Some background info:
Dressage Facility
Trakehners, of course!
My mom & grandma will be living with me...so 3 generations.
Land is almost completely flat...rectangular in size (looks like a HUGE dressage arena.
First morning I saw it...there was a beautiful mist coming off the property.  There was also full moon that night.
Original family farm was named SunRidge (don't want to re-use)

Here are some suggestions I've received:
Trinity Trakehners
TriTempi Trakehners  (that's pressure to nail the changes  Grin)
Three Traks Farm
Moon Dance Farm

Does anyone like any of these?

Help...please!  Thanks

Congratulations!

I don't like any of the names, either  Wink

Just FYI, "morning mist" would be "Morgennebel" in German.

And I would advise avoiding combining the English word "mist" with ANYTHING German--"Mist" is manure auf Deutsch!  Tongue

But thinking about your first impressions, how about "Vision Trakehners" or "Vision Farm"?  Sounds like you have an idea of what your facility will become  Wink

Yikes Ingrid,
That would be a major mistake using mist,
I wonder if they sell Seirra Mist soda in Germany? Tongue

Sorry, I'm not wild about the first ideas either.  Karim - kinda like that one.  Using Gestuet in North America might throw some of your prospects, spelling wise (plus kinda indicative of standing stallions to me - is this the case?).  Just something to think about: check availability of domain names/spellings for your future website as you mull ideas.  You don't want to have strange, foreign or mis-spellings or you'll lose a lot of traffic AND you'll always have to spell out your web address verbally/in writing if it's not straightforward.  You can go to any of the domain hosting sites, like godaddy.com to check availability in .com, .net, .us, etc (want .com if at all possible).  Also, search your best name ideas online to make sure there are not other equine businesses with similar names, even if in other states.  Good luck with the realtor!

How about using your initials or name somehow - We call our mini-farm the Rockin' "D" Ranch - Rockin' because threre is frequently loud music coming from the garage, "D" because my so's name (and my nickname and last name) start with "D".  And ranch because we do have farm animals.  Of course, since I got him a home brew kit for X-mas last year, it's now the Rockin' "D" Ranch and Saloon.   Grin

Will your new digs have creeks, ponds, lake access, or a river?  Any local lore (native American or otherwise) you can draw on for ideas?  Just a couple ideas.

Thanks all for the ideas!

To answer some questions:

I am in MD.  There isn't any water on the land and the only trees are the property lines on 3 sides.  (There's the 3 again.)

NO...I will not be standing any stallions.  (Unless Karim trys to talk me in to that too  Wink)

Using our names...Grandma agrees.  She thinks we should call it "Robin's Roost".  Sorry Gram...that's not happening Cheesy

Still negotiating with the current owner, but it looks like it will work out!  I AM SO NERVOUS!!!

I have one of each...SO FAR Wink

Katamount:  Laiken/Pregelstrand gray mare.  From the Kassette line.  She is my princess.  Called:  Kat

Mandate:  EnricoCaruso/Mandinka black gelding.  Menuett is granddam.  He's a love...a BIG black puppy dog.  Barn name is Mouse.

Hence:  Kat - n - Mouse.  Corny, huh?  (See why I need help with names!)

I may not be any help with names but I live in Marlyand and would LOVE to see your finished farm!  I am so happy that there is yet another Trakehner fan here in the Merry land. Wink

What about Katamount Trakehners?  If you are going to be breeding, that would be nice.  Could she be considered your "foundation" mare?   She comes from one of my favorite mare lines.  No offense to Mouse, but if you are planning on breeding, he is a bit short on the equiptment he needs to perform.  (In my mind, that justifies naming it after your mare.  Wink )

Names can come about in the funniest ways.  Our family farm is "Crooked Shade Farm".  Why?  Has nothing to do with trees...

In the living room, there's a window with a slatted shade (used to be called "venetial blinds" only now the slats are smaller) that was impossible to keep straight.  We were trying to come up with names (Ducktrap Mountain Farm, Foggy Acres, etc. etc.) when my father, in disgust one day when he couldn't get that darned shade down properly to block out the afternoon sun, said in jest, I don't know about the farm, but this is a crooked shade house!"  My mother and I looked at each other and said, "Bingo!".

Joy:  I am afraid of what name might inadvertently pop in my mind through the building process.  I already feel as though I need a sedative  Grin

AMcGrady:  You are welcome to come by anytime.  The farm will be in Union Bridge.  Where are you located? I have been trying to come up with ways of naming the farm after Kat.  Not to take anything away from Mouse...but she is my special one.  We've come a long way together and there's a bond-ya know-the one you can't put in words. Smiley  And, yes, eventually she will be bred.

Nope, definitely not during the building process!  LOL!  I could just see the names flying by:  Nervous Prostration Farm, Laid Low Trakehners, or BlankStare Farm!

Now for some serious suggestions:
Mistover Trakehners
Dancing Mist Trakehners
Wellspring Trakehners
Morning Mist Trakehners

I kind of like Moon Dance Farm, too.

So far I like Wellspring Trakehners the best, though it doesn't have the 3 generational theme.

If I had to name it today it would be "HOW MUCH?"  Shocked - I've been busy with contractors and architects.

I like Trilogy Trakehners ...I'm a bit stuck on the "3" thing.  Or it could be Triad Trakehners.

Karim...I know you don't like any of these...then give me something better Wink
